urgent -developer has left a ton of errors - what should I do?

Hi,

I had a membership website developed on a CMS but the developer has really let me down - autoresponders are not working, affiliate links not tracking, affiliate accounts not working properly, affiliate links not working in google chrome and needs further development that was promised but not delivered e.g. log out and forgot password.

He is not responding to my emails or skype after having paid him to go live.

The test site functioned fine - now that we have gone live there are all these errors and functionality that is no longer working.

He has said that he built the software himself and that it is like open source (looks very much like joomla to me), and that the data is not encrypted and other developers can modify.

We have affiliates calling us asking when they can send out - super keen but can't get going until all of the errors are fixed.

Do you know of anyone that can help urgently? If so please contact me asap either PM or skype - see contact info.

    Hello, I'm a seasoned developer, but I really don't engage in development work anymore.

    I'm replying just to give you some advice:
    1) As a programmer, I've always been extremely reluctant to clean up other people's messes. Some imbeciles completely ignore coding etiquette and standards, making it very difficult to navigate through their code. In other situations, the code is poorly constructed and rectifying one problematic area causes many others to crash.

    2) You're going to want to be more specific, so as to attract the right kind of helper:
    Is your website built in PHP, or maybe something less common like on the .NET framework?
    Is your CMS custom built or are you using an existing CMS platform like Drupal, Joomla, Wordpress?
    And so on and so forth.

    Best of luck to you, this happens all too often because of irresponsible programmers.

      Hi Silke, you are correct - my contract didn't include support when live. I have been working with Tim who has been an absolute star in assisting me... he's a very smart cookie! Orvn, you are correct, some programmers do lack skill as I have just found out.. Andre, unknowncat and caesargus thank you for your offer of assistance - Tim is onto it.

    Hi Natasha,

    Sorry to hear that, but these things happen unfortunately.

    I'm a seasoned web developer and I agree with ORVN above, on point 1, it would even cost much more to get a new developer involved, going through the mess and trying to fix things than gettting it redeone in many, many cases. Depending on how all this was built.

    I've been elaborating and implementing solutions, like what you describe has been done for you, for years and have come be able to build something powerful and reliable for a very low price compared to proprietary systems and solutions.

    Let me know if you'd like to discuss this further and let me see what's the mess you have and what can be done to get you out of if, as hassle free as possible
