Need Advice - Simplifying Joomla Site

Dear Warriors,

Currently we have a joomla powered community site linked to our oscommerce webstore which is popular mainly for the content and forum.

We are considering simplifying the site to focus on only the content (blog, news, guides) and forum. Thus removing all the bells and whistles of community features such as Poll, Videos & Image sharing, activity stream and etc.

So we are wondering if we should just remain using Joomla or is there a better platform out there that can manage both content, forum and able to share login with oscommerce?

I was looking at VBulletin + Wordpress but the issue is the shared login with our oscommerce webstore.

You kind guidance and advise is much appreciated!

how are you linking the user DB of joomla and oscommerce ? oscommerce normally have its own DB of users.

We used a self-developed bridge actually. A method we don't mind doing again via Wordpress or whichever cms we go with.

Nowadays everybody is trying to add community features you are removing them...

Not sure why you would be looking to switch to another platform, why can't you just remove this features and stay on Joomla? I think this makes the most sense unless I miss something here.

First of all i think you should keep it going with joomla. You can disable the features you don't want.

Secondly As you said you are using a bridge with joomla you can have a similar type of bridge with wordpress.

I have created a bridge with joomla for one client so its not difficult.

As far as VBulletin is concerned i don't think that is good choice for you.

You can do two things 1. Keep it with joomla and disable the features you don't want 2. You can create a website in wordpress and can link it to oscommerce

    Cheers,

Disable the modules and plugins you don't want (very easy to do) Keep the joomla platform and add the content. I don't ever see any reason for anyone to go to wordpress.
