Usually if your mailing list is legitimate you don't need such a proxy...

What are you trying to achieve?

google has an smtp service, get gmail, then use these configs:

Incoming Mail (POP3) Server - requires SSL: your.isps.pop3.server.com
    Use SSL: No
    Port: 110
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS: smtp.gmail.com (use authentication)
    Use Authentication: Yes
Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL)
    Port: 465 or 587
Account Name: your Gmail username (including '@gmail.com')
Email Address: your original isp address (username@isp.c0m)
    Password: your Gmail password

from here: Gmail as a free smtp server

I am using this as a Newletter software. I can't use google for this. Remember, I am developing software. This is not just from my computer. Smtp programs like smtp.com are cost prohibitive for this type of use.

Normal email accounts only allow 500 emails per day...Web Hosting Companies only allow 2,000 per day. I get that many in leads per day alone.

Using companies like aweber, get response etc are fine. However, I get double opt in leads from many places and if you want to ad them to your auto responder they send out another opt in form. People who have already opted in don't like this.

I have been looking into VPS. They are suppose to allow unlimited e-mail or can be used as an email proxy. However, so far they are very expensive and I would have to charge a fee for people whom purchase the software to use the server.

The whole idea is to keep it affordable.

I really need some ideas. There has to be away to do this without making the software to expensive for people.....

you could make a cheaper version of the software where they need to plug in their own SMTP server?

I don't think you are going to find a *free* backend ubiquitous SMTP server that handles basically anonymous requests and isn't already being shut down as a spam relay.

    KKoechel

I have been doing some checking around and found that people who make this type of software (such as vodamail, mailsend, mailblaster) all host the email on either a dedicated server or a vps type. Voda charges $60 per year to use there software. Some like MailBoy, SendBlast etc. charge between $85 to over $200 for there software.

I am just doing a very simple "Bot" that can send thousands of emails per day. I have been using with the google smtp and it works great, but that is just my self, I only wanted to charge about $17 for this bot. The reason for a built in mail proxy because some people just can't follow directions and to make it with as little confusion as possible.

Some thoughts of charging them a $10 per year hosting fee in conjunction with the bot price. However, I am bothered with the fact that too many don't use clean lists and may try the sapmming bit.

So I am going to experiment a little. I think what I might do is send my test group the software along with instructions on how to use google as an smtp. This means I will have to modify my bot to allow them to input the smtp i.d., user name and password so they can use google as smtp... see how it preforms for them.

It will take me a week or so to make the changes...If you would be interested in being a part of my test group. P.M. me with your e-mail and I'll send you a free copy and then you can give my your thoughs.

    Thanks
    Fran
