Can Anyone Help Me ? WP-Blog Problem

I made a WP-blog in the Stop-Smoking niche. All was working great. I added several posts and began getting traffic. I had my Discussions setup to let me approve comments before they would be posted. A few post received comments and all was well. I am alway tweaking things adding new plug-ins etc. and now if someone try to leave a post comment they are sent to a page that says "Sorry the page you are looking for is not available" I tried everything I know but can't get the Blog to except comments.

If you would like to check it out before answering me please go to ButtOutSmoking.com and attempt to leave a comment on one of the posts

Thanks for any suggestions..

None of the pages are redirecting properly, which is why visitors see the 404 WP page after leaving a comment (although I couldnt even get to a page to try to leave one).

The problem is could be a number of things including your permalinks settings, your htaccess file permissions or may be something entirely different.

If you would like some 1-on-1 assistance with this, please feel free to post a PM to me and I would be happy to help.

Thank you Johny ... Some of the things you mentioned that could be my problem I have no knowledge of I am adding you to my Skype and will leave you a PM there. When you have some free time I would greatly appreciate if you could talk me though some.

      Thanks again

Hey Shingy, no problem. I haven't received your Skype request so I assume you haven't done that yet, but I am online when you are ready and I will be more than happy to give you a hand.

Hey shingy, I agree with Johny, I can almost guarantee it's a .htaccess and/or permalinks issue.

Since your page extensions end in .html you probably have something like this in your permalink settings /%postname%.html correct?

Your .htaccess file may not have been updated or perhaps was deleted(?) or, maybe you need a plugin like - http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/...ed-permalinks/ ?

But, as Johny says, without being able to go in and see the pages/files on your site, it's hard to say.

I'm assuming Johny will help you out with this. Good luck

It's most likely .htaccess issue (you probably did changes inside admin panel, but the .htaccess file wasn't writable on your hosting server).

Or an issue with permalinks - sometimes you mess up with dashes and other parameters, like including full domain address with "http" in here. Double check this one.

Finally, this might be an issue of current WordPress theme. Check the comments.php file via themes editor inside admin panel.

Great ...Thank you all for the quick and helpful response ... you each seem to feel it is the same problem. It doesn't sound like it will be as bad as i figured it would be.

Everyone was absolutely right about the permalinks. I was able to fix the problem on my own once I knew where to look...

It would be a great help to me someone would check back to my Blog and see if things seem to be working now

        thanks again ALL

    Hi shingy,

I just checked your site and the posts now show up. I haven't tried to leave a comment. However, I notice your posts now show /archives/ in the URL and this won't help you as far as SEO is concerned.

Not sure if you simply selected one of the options on the Permalinks page but what I usually do is select the custom permalinks and add something like /%category%/%postname%/ instead of one of the defaults such as /archives/.

If you try a custom permalink option and still have problems, make sure you have a .htaccess file. If not, see if you can upload one. Let me know if you need help.

It's most likely just a matter of setting your permalinks correctly. If that doesn't work, it's a simple matter of your htacess file. As mentioned, if you need help, just let me know and I can probably solve it for you in a minute (no charge).

Try to replace your comments.php in wp-admin folder, I think that file is corrupted.

Try this if all potential solutions above do not work:

Change your permalinks back to default. Now check if your comments work. If so, you can change your permalinks back to your desired state. I've seen a few folks with this issue and this was the resolution.
