Logging into your network Router settings website,

You can change the IP address, by deleting the numbers and adding new ones.

with the restart of your system.

Is there any harm in doing this?

Not if you know what you are doing.

The question is why are you wanting to change the IP address of the router in the first place?

I dont, and it wont be, but this computer is shared by many people, and i noticed it in the History, somebody else checked.

I will ask them what they were doing, but not sure if they changed anything.

Just asking if theres any harm in doing so.

Most routers ship to all customers with default settings and a standard set of IP addresses, sub net addresses, admin username and password.

The person charged with Admin responsibilities over the router needs to at least secure it so that the settings cannot (easily) be changed by anyone else.

It sounds like the router has yet to be secured from the factory defaults.

The person that changes the admin password has control over the router, so if the router belongs to you, you need to take care of that.
