I just downloaded Firefox and think that I am having a problem. When I save something to a folder it actually shows two icons. The one for the item saved with the Firefox icon and a second with a plain yellow folder with the files.
It is quite annoying and if I delete the files folder then both icons disappear.
Is this really the way it is suppose to be?

So you are saving webpages using File -> Save Page As ?

The Firefox symbol file will be the actual HTML. In Windows, by default, it has "known" file extensions turned off. It's a really Stupid idea... anyway so that would explain why it looks like you have two "folders".

The Firefox symboled thing is actually a Firefox File - ie Firefox is associated with files with the .html (dot html) file extension.

The other folder will contain all the images and other bits and pieces.

So the yellow folder you are seeing is a real Folder...
And the Firefox Symbol thingy is actually a file. That being .html file!
You do need both of them.

Not the clearest explanation, but I hope it helps.

    Cheers
    Tim

Not sure how you can recommend google chrome after running it through a packet sniffer. Two very strange requests used to come up. Google collect too much user data for me.

Drop down menu in the upper left is a highly simplified version of the traditional menu found on Firefox 3. Those used for older browser will feel bit lost here as everything is now positioned as a sub-menu that you will have to wait to appear when you hover over a menu item.

@ibklutzy - One other point. As Tim pointed out, you probably saved a web page and chose "Web page, complete" for the "Save as Type" dropdown box. The folder simply contains files like the images etc so that when you pulled up the saved page again, it would look just like the original one on the Web.

For contrast, try doing a save with "Save As Type" set to "Web page, HTML only", then pull up the saved page - you'll immediately see the difference and get it. See the attached screenshot too.

    HTH!

Sammi - prob best to start a new thread (although I don't think WF is necessarily the best forum for this type of ques), but really quickly - your installation is probably corrupt and/or you have some troublesome plugins. Also make sure you're on the latest version; so far for me, FF 4 has been pretty stable.

The menu bar using the menu options across the columns are squished into the orange button atleft . Hot key has not changed, all the sub-menu, it has been redesigned as well, not so steep learning curve. In fact, the redesign of the menu that add much more, to get a bookmark, a brief history, now they can all live in the menu pane. Menu button, Mac users are not available.
