firmware programming skills need to be updated

hi,

So, I have a new drive. My LDW-401S is going nicely.

I would like to learn a thing or two about firmware programming.

Eg, the tools required, what kind of programming language knowledge is required.

I am, at heart a C and C++ programmer. I know a little ASM as well.

Is any of this of relevance?

If it isnt, can someone point me in the general direction of learning?
