computer freeze - arrrrrrgh!

Hi Warriors,

My computer freezes up and the cpu usage skyrockets to 100% when I'm in My Computer. I've run two different registry cleaners, restricted my msconfig start-up, and run five different anti-virus/trojan programs (Norton 360, Malwarebytes, MS Security Essentials, and two other minor ones). Nothing seems to work!!! Arrrrrrrrrrgh!

I've even tried putting an extra (external) fan on my tower to help keep things running cooler.

This thing's frustrating me to death because I have to power off and then reboot everytime it happens!

Do any of you warriors have some suggestions for me to try?

I'd appreciate any workable suggestions if you've run into this kind of freezing thing before!

Thanks!

Art

download kubuntu linux live cd. its free. Run your pc off of that for a day or two to see if it is something wrong with the software your running or if its a hardware issue.

If it does the same thing on that totally different operating system then its a hardware issue.

Well, the first thing you should try to do is identifying which process(es) are eating up CPU usage.
Doing a Ctrl+Alt+Suppr and going to the process list in the task manager, you should be able to sort it by cpu usage (clicking the column header).

Find a reliable adware and spyware removal program. Check Spybot Search & Destroy, it is quite good.

    Press CTRL+Alt+Delete

    Click on the "Processes" tab.

Then click "CPU" column header twice.

This will sort processes by CPU usage maximum to minimum. The process using the most CPU usage will appear at the top.

If safe to do so, end process, and your computer should return back to normal.

    Hope this helps
