Anybody doing anything with bitcoins (BTC) ?

Just wondering if anyone is considering jumping on the BitCoin bandwagon; and if so, how can I do it too?

One site has a browser based "miner" here: [Generate]
Press the big blue Generate button to see it working. Let it run for 1 minute to help me out. :p

Can anyone here build something like this?

EDIT: CPU mining is obsolete.

wow, does WF have any quality control? dudes are blatantly posting their affiliate links.

Why would anyone serious about business even consider make 10 cents an hour with bitcoins??

bitcoins from mining < cost of electricity to have computer running

generating bitcoins costs you more than what you get out of it

      Calculating Bitcoin Value...

I had a domain once that was linked to a domain farm that was getting slammed by scrapebox 400 times a day. Lookin for comments, I think if i put in the bitcoin web plugin i could have got a dollar maybe from it.

Haters will be haters I guess. This thread wasn't about negative comments about bitcoins. I don't care if it's a pump and dump, a fallacy, or a currency.

This is about the flavor-of-the-month thing here. Like H1N1. W/e. Doesn't matter. What matters is what INTERNET MARKETERS are making from it.

From what I've read, you'll want a rig with a big PSU, and a bunch of high end Radeon graphics cards installed in it (and a lot of cooling). With the Bitcoin exchange rate rocketing skywards at a frankly alarming rate, I think you could easily churn $100 a day or more out a rig like that.

Too techy for me as to the setup part, but on a pure ROI basis, I think there are definite legs in it.

Bitcoin is definitively hot and it is a great opportunity as well a a cool tool for merchants. My partner and I are about to launch a trading platform / exchanger for Bitcoin, if anybody would like to learn more, please feel free to PM me. BTW we may be looking for small investors to finance the launch

It's cool if You have good ATi Graphic Card, (especially 5870 - 5970 or 6990) - you can make then some decent money ( the "mining" is running in background so you can do your everyday work on your PC) 1 coin = 19.5 $ , with good hardware You can get 1coin every few days. I was curious how it works and.. after 10 hours I have 0.011 coin , but i have NVIDIA which is not good for "mining"

Do you really believe everything you read? In my opinion the ball already got rolling on BTC, just like when the Internet started, and the gov has been trying to regulate it forever. But here we still are using it to free the world even more. I believe what people are actually doing instead of stories. I worked in the TV news business for over 15 years and saw many bull stories that they would miss up on air, and not come back and correct there mistakes. So it gets out like a wild fire. And non believers believe it. MT Gox is one of the big BTC exchanges, why would they spend all there money and energy on something that won't work. Now nothing is for sure in this world. But really?

I am personally invested in bitcoin and have 2 dedicated servers, with some pieces still in the mail for one. before I started mining I bought 200BTC a few weeks ago and later sold most of it because i needed i ran into personal financial problems and needed money to buy stuff.
The big problem with buying hardware is this was my first major online purchase with so many problems. First I bought from companies that scammed me. Then I bought from a good company that didn't keep up-to-date stock information. Then I had to wait for a refund for a new order, then I had to phone to get them to ship what they had instead of waiting for everything to be in stock. Now I still have to wait for more parts.
So since spending money on the first company it has been well over 2 months since I tried to purchase everything and only now I received half.
So advice to anyone: for time sensitive things, you need previous experience with everything, or just don't do it.

I have traded for it for rather low fees and I'm in Canada so I can use cavirtex with $2 or $5 fixed fees. Yes the price is very volatile, but it has a history of being extremely volatile for many months and until it has gained more widespread use I expect volatility to remain high. However the generally monthly trend as it's existence becomes known to more is a steady increase.

It has been frustrating but also fun to setup and learn and I like the idea and believe in it. I think for immediate use it is extremely useful for any type of donation, storing value for crashing countries or anyone, and some electronic goods.

For anyone saying how horrible it is for making money by mining, you need to understand that is not really what it is about unless you want to get invested and do research. If you want to invest you can use exchanges like mtgox or tradehill to buy them now if you want to invest, but any sudden interests in it will create short-term bubbles. That is extremely important to understand.

Also, many bad things have recently been connected to bitcoin like ddos attacks, theft, drugs, bad media, and political enemies. Many of these things may seem bad now, but it will only drive price up(this happened when mtgox was previously ddosed) as it gets harder to get and will still be useful in general as its uses grow.

Personally, although I invest in it, the primary reason I put it in is because I believe it is safer to have it in bitcoin than any bank and will not be eroded by currency changes or inflation(in the long term).

I learned about Bitcoins some weeks ago. Everything sounded so great about it. Still, one should be careful when has to invest money in something and there's definetely a risk of losing money here. As that, I firstly invested into only 2 Bitcoins, trying to see if there's money in Bitcoin trading.

The truth is, that already there are seen serious issues with Bitcoins.

The increase in value recenly was just too extreme, to be of much time and a downward trend started already, making it possible to lose as much money as one would have gained while on the upward trend or even more.

A currency exchange was hacked and several accounts compromised or Bitcoins stolen. There's no increased security in Bitcoins compared to other currencies, as so many like to say. Because it is easy to steal Bitcoins in the way it was done and you have no legal ways to do something against it (do you believe Police or Banks would do anything for a not-official currency?). There is not really a way to follow who stole Bitcoins, as it is a lot easier to let them go anonymously through hundreds or thousands of accounts before cashing them out, then with any real currency and real bank accounts.

I saw several serious currency exchanges (like VirWox) suspending trading of it completely after happening that. Unlike with real currencies, you are going to lose in that cases everything and you have only little to none laws helping you to get back what you lost.

Because of those issues, I see no real alternative in Bitcoins as a virtual currency for real goods. A virtual currency works great for platforms like SecondLife, where it is also controlled by someone. But Bitcoins try to step into a world, where this is not going to work. A massive turnaway by users after happenings like the one above will make such a currency very unstable, by letting the value drop massively, which will cause even more users to cash out their money and could cause Bitcoins to lose a lot of their value... leading to something similar like a stock market crash. The viral nature of Bitcoins will only help that to happen faster. That's something that can't happen with a real currency, because someone controls it and governments and banks have interest to avoid that happen and will take actions to prevent that. Who will do that for Bitcoins? Nobody!

    thejimy,

I do see your point. But honestly the Us dollar is no different. People still trade drugs under the table, and the value goes up and down. I believe this product is more for the bigger risk takers. But I could be wrong. We are still testing this product. Give me some bigger reason instead of your fears? Not bashing I really want to know the true fear. Cause I know Henry Ford got a lot of crap, but we drive that crap all the time now. Bring it, and thanks for your time.

LOL, I was wondering if BTC/NMC had found its way here.

    Bitcoin (BTC), Namecoin (NMC)

I've been sooo engrossed in this the last few months, I haven't even been on here. Any of you there during the NMC gold rush... man, that was insane. I made crazy money in that time, but I was mining that a week before the rush

Income at present is fairly stable. I'm making about £30 per day with 8 miners (8x HD 5870). All my kit paid for, and a Uni reunion to the Dam. Now profits are going into my affiliate sites

For anyone interested in this, I wouldn't go nuts with equipment, just test it out. Try to set up bare bones rigs (no box), and use Linuxcoin (pre-built fully functional Linux with mining software) for the O/S. Just search the Bitcoin site for that software.

Best still, try it out with your ATI card, or if you don't have one, and need an upgrade, then treat yourself. You never know, it may pay for itself. Getting a card, make sure it's at least a 5870. 5830 and 5850 are/were the favourites, but I prefer a card that will produce more for you, and 5870 takes some beating as a miner

Note, I said "may pay for itself". Nobody knows how long this gravy train will last. So don't go silly when buying equipment if you do get involved !

Here a link to the main forum. I can't see a reason why this shouldn't be allowed.. nothing illegal... to do with making money online
    Bitcoin Forum - Index

I'm Chucksta there, so if you have any questions, please ask, there or here

Before I got into BTC/NMC, I ran a LOT of empirical tests, as I do with anything I get involved in. And liked what I saw, but things are tougher now (difficulty adjustment to BTC/NMC mining), so make sure you thoroughly test it yourself !

OH you sure can make money with Bitcoins! Our bit mining pool found its first block yesterday. We want to make this the best pool and welcome suggestions!

        BitHasher.com - Bitcoin Mining Pool

There are zero fees as we get started.

        Heres the connection info:
Signup and create workers here: BitHasher.com - Bitcoin Mining Pool
Point your miners here: bithasher.com port 8332

Some info about the pool and its hardware:
        Proportional Payout
        Zero fees as we grow
API data coming soon (We are working on it right now)
Our servers (yes, thats plural ) are located in a very nice Datacenter located in Knoxville TN.
We have 2 separate ISP's providing very huge pipes to our servers
HP Proliant main servers with IBM xSeries as a redundant backup

        What we can offer you:
A good stable pool that is in a very reputable datacenter running very good physical hardware. We are not running this on some janky Dedicated, or VPS. We own the physical machines. We chose a datacenter that is within a very short driving distance for us, and we have 24x7 access to the racks if needed.
        Zero fees as we grow.
We are also welcome to any and all suggestions you may have. We want this pool to be what everyone needs, and looks for in a pool.
We are coming up with ideas that will be special awards for the first few users.
We welcome any and all miners, regardless of how small or large your rigs are. CPU miners are just as welcome on our pool as the big 2 Ghash rigs.
We have a forum in the works, that we plan to grow as our users suggest, and we are working on a hardware guide for new miners.

Come and be a part of our pool, and grow with us. Help us make this the pool that you want.

    Hello there,
The mining period belongs to the past. It still exists, but the profits are to low. The cost of your computers electricity is about 10 times higher than the geration of Bitcoins(with the mining software).
What you should do is buy some Bitcoins and trade with them.
There is a fantastic trading platform that gives realy a great profit. I am not here to make publicity or to do promotional stuff, but if you are interested or want to know more about it... feel free to contact me.
