I want to create a Google Map API site, what Languages do I need to learn?

I want to create a site that displays the Google map, with additional information on it, something like this: groupon.com/now

I see on the google map api site (Google Maps API Family - Google Code) that the program comes in both javascript and flash. My question is, which of these 2 languages is best to develop in - I would need to learn them from scratch. Also, what is the extent that I would have to learn these languages? I just need something very simply that will be used as a prototype more than anything.

I currently know php (limited) html and css.

    You wanna Ad just API Google to a Site, or build a new site ???
    If just to ad, its very easy, Google it and you'll find how to.
    But if to Build, then Good Luck in loosing your time its not like 1,2,3 easy, and combining 2 languages, its a headace every time.
    Best what u can do, is to find help with integration, go to freelacers sites and u can find some good guys with good price... thats what i did after 2 months working on one own project

    For sure go with the Maps Javascript API. It's their main focus and receives the most attention.

      So then learn javascript to be able to add elements to the map like how you see on groupon.com/now
