Drupal Experts - Please Help

Hi,

I need to set up a comprehensive informational/content site using the CMS Drupal, which blends web content management and social media capabilities.

The site will be very large, with potential to become even larger in the long term, with a large number of users.

SE Optimization is very critical for the site, with specific SE optimized pages.

The site will be silo structured.

I am a non-techie person with little techie knowledge/abilities - but I believe that once the technical things are taken care of, I can work with Drupal.

After deciding on Drupal several months ago, I bought an eBook called 'Building powerful & robust websites with Drupal 6' by David Mecer - but one of the problems I encountered were issues with modules in the latest version of Drupal which did not work. I also had problems around the particular modules I needed to do what I want.

So, I am looking for some Drupal expert who can install/set up the site for me with all the necesarry add-ons set up so that all I will then do is to populate the site with my content....

Basically I am looking for someone who knows all the essential and functional modules that work with the latest version of Drupal...and who can install/set up a site and make it ready to get the content added.

Uses of the site: primarily informational, promoting/selling some products, possible membership as part of the site, the site will be learning towards users participation/interaction....Basic add-ons that I will need are: content construction kit that lets me create custom content, add images for picture galleries, site spam protection, add in a blog, add in videos, discussion forum, offer classified ads on the site, tags etc.

I am hoping that someone who is well versed with Drupal will know all the essential add-on modules which they would recommend and install - based on what I need to do with the site.

I am not really looking for suggestions on alternative CMS, as I have used or tested these before, and my preference is Drupal.

I would appreciate any help or suggestions ....Please PM me or Post here.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Nikki

    Hi Nikki,

I'm a programmer and am pretty good with Drupal. Its my favorite CMS and I've set up 10 sites on it. I keep them all up to date and am using half dozen custom modules which I keep up to date. I've learned a few tricks for keeping the maintenance simple too.

Its not the easiest CMS to use but its magnificent and maybe I can help you get going.

    Cheers,

    Steve

    OMG drupal...

one of my major sites Internet Marketing - Affiliate Marketing - SEO - Webmaster Blog is on drupal.

NOW, i would never go through the hassles anymore, WAY to much maintenance....way too complex...i think WP would do the same job, in a fraction of time.

That being said...drupal IS great...but a little overkill for many projects.

Congratulations on selecting Drupal. Judging by your requirements, I think you've made the right choice.

Here's a few module recommendations to get you started:
    • CCK - Add extra fields to content types. Useful fields include imagefield, link, and try embedded media field for automatic embedding of videos.
    • ImageCache - Auto resize and display images
    • Admin Menu - Makes administration a 100x less frustrating
    • Views - Query builder. Create custom lists of content. Views 2 has really nice AJAX support for filters and paging.
    • Advanced Forum - makes the core forum module look a bit more like a standard forum.
    • UberCart - currently the best solution for ecommerce within Drupal. Sell products, or have users pay for a restricted role to enable posting.
    • Content Profile - create user profiles using CCK
    • PathAuto - make SEO friendly URL Aliases.
    • Global Redirect - prevent duplicate content when using path alias (good SEO)

Also remember to optimize your site's performance before you put it live. There are a few useful Drupal configuration tweaks on my blog for when you're ready to launch.
