Posts and pages in database but suddenly not displaying

Hi, all
I've been running a wp website for a few weeks now and have about 30 posts, about 4 pages and a few comments, but I've been away for 3 days and returned to find my website now displays error 404 - not found.

I can access my dashboard which shows all posts and pages are now gone, but my comments (and all tags) are still there. I backup the site every day though, but when I went to my phpadmin to reinstall I find all the posts and pages are still there. They've just suddenly decided not to display on my site anymore.

It was working yesterday, I can tell from google analytics that several posts/pages were accessed, and as I haven't been around to change anything since 4 days ago I know it wasn't me.

I've tried disabling all plugins and reverting to 2011 theme but still nothing.

Can someone please help me get the posts/pages to display again, but bear in mind that although I set up the site I'd appreciate you keep it simple!

Thanks for any help you can give.

is your .htaccess file messed up? Try recreating your permalink settings.

Thanks for the reply but that's not simple enough for me. How do I check my .htaccess file or recreate permalink settings?
