First off, good form wanting to learn CSS!! Very useful skill.

But, please... don't ever use tables. Once you've used DIVs you'll never use a table again. Read up with the w3 schools, but learn the selectors (a, b, p, div, ul, li, etc) and then search for them in google when you're trying to work with them. Read up on the box-display and read up on CSS 3 - googling these will give you good blogs with examples.

      Check out: CSS Basics

May be ur div tags are getting repeated somehow.
Thats the only possible reason. Some div class or id element is getting repeated, thus rendering a css conflict.

w3schools is great - especially for syntax.

Check out Videos on youtube or go to tuts+ site by envato, they have tons of tutorials on html and css. I would really recommend In-depth tutorials and articles on web design | Webdesigntuts+ or Web development tutorials, from beginner to advanced | Nettuts+

Do the courses on Lynda, then whenever you can't figure something out, google it.

I learned CSS using TopStyle (a CSS editor) its pretty easy to use, and you will eventually figure out the syntax to use by playing with it.

The missing manual series, Lynda and w3schools are good resources. SitePoint is also a great place to learn web related technology.

Initially you may find it hard and frustrating to learn it. But don't give up. The more you practice with examples the easier it gets to understand CSS and HTML. In no time you will be comfortable change the looks and building pages!

      Good luck!

google any CSS code you are having issues with ; this will bring up direct replies and examples... most important ; CSS is an "in order" language ; meaning it builds based on previous settings in order of elements in your CSS file. This is critical.

Do not use tables for layout purposes.

If you need to learn CSS then you need to know about the box model, document flow, floating and how to code HTML correctly.

There are lot tutorials ... just use Google

I have to echo all the comments about W3Schools being a great place to learn anything HTML or CSS related. As well I have found the books by O'Reily to be really helpful as well. They are not too expensive and i really like the way the teach the material.

I bought a book that combined how to use HTML and CSS. Once I had the basics down I refered back to the book or w3schools. I was going to learn dreamweaver but felt I could do everything better by just coding it in myself.

Jesus, guys, seriously: Do we REALLY need to have about 50 guys giving the same answer or pointing to the obvious???? "W3School" (that's okay).

Then "w3school." "Yes, w3school". "w3school, I agree". "mhhh-hmmmm, w3school". "Did we mention w3school". Ah, and "the internet". Thank you.

This is really starting to annoy me... Try to provide some quality answers to get your post counts up.

    Cheers,
    Rob

EDIT: Anyone agreeing AND providing some other helpful stuff is exempted from my rage post

W3 schools is a scam. They have all kind of syntax wrong and give out worthless certifications for hundreds of dollars. They have no correlation with the real Web Consortium, just exploiting the name for financial purposes.
