You can try w3schools.com. You can learn anything and everything from this site. It is a very helpful site. They have lots of examples and other things as well.

It helped me while trying to learn my PHP and ASP. I hope you can learn from this site as well.

    Goodluck!

I am working my way through this book as I try to learn PHP this summer. I am really liking it so far as I tend to be a visual and hands-on learner, it delivers on both fronts.

        Head First PHP & MySQL

It's from O'Reilly books. Sorry I don't have enough posts here to link it, but you can find it on Amazon.

        High five!

I do not know about any php books because what I always do is search online for what I need and 99.9% of the time I come up with a good resource so that I do not have to get any book at all. For php I found Practical PHP Programming | TuxRadar Linux some time ago and I am finding it really helpful.

I strongly suggest to go for an ebook or book. They are very well put together and you will learn anything you need and have to learn about php.
If you go for web tutorials don't expect to learn too much.
There are several few free php ebooks on the web (300-400 pages will be enough).

    Good luck

You can learn PHP syntax easily enough, but it's practically useless without knowing the "right" way to program.

W3Schools is barely a start in my book.

Learn all you can at W3Schools then open up some WordPress code and you'll be lost.

A good tutorial includes basic syntax an operators at the start.

Many Google results for my PHP questions point to W3Schools but the page directed to is always WAY to basic to be of any help.

    Regards,
    PCRoger.

Start reading at w3schools, start with tutorials on your local machine by using e.g. XAMPP when you got stuck you can use PHP.net for help or forums. I was planning to learn PHP too but since there are lots of opensource solutions I didn't bother anymore. Of course I know some basics but I'm not a programmer.
