I hope someone can help here. This morning I opened OE and ALL my emails in folders, including the Inbox folder, down to a certain level have gone! I have 'there are no items in this view' showing. Unfortunately, all the missing folders are business ones. Everything has gone. Have run a recover my files program but it doesn't appear to have found anything except deleted files. No emails found at all.

When I first opened OE I tried closing it and re-opening and saw briefly, a small window with I think "compressing" showing but it was so fast I hardly managed to see it.

I do know that there were way too many emails in the Inbox, I am sharing this with partner and I asked him repeatedly to sort out the inbox as most of the emails there were his he didn't of course.

But all the emails which have gone missing where mine, all in their correct Local folders.

This is something of a major disaster. Can anyone help me please?

Unfortunately with Outlook Express this is not an uncommon experience.

I dont' know what the magic maximum number of items there can be in a folder, but once you hit the number, OE just throws a "wobbly" and you loose everything..

I had it happen to me once before, and decided to change email tools..

I valuely remember there was a tool, somewhere on the web, that you try and help you get the emails back, but I can't remember where I saw it..

Sorry I can't help much more, and best of luck trying to get your emails back..

A quick google search for "outlook express email recovery" reveals a few tools that might be able to help.

Thanks Bruce, Yes I loath OE, am going to put Thunderbird on for my emails, whether partner likes it or not.

Have managed to recover files/folders and they are showing an AutoCadDatabase Extension.

Tried importing them back into *bleeping* OE it's saying import sucessful but the emails are still not showing up.

Anyone know what I should do next? Have all the 'recovered' emails stored in a folder in My Documents. By the weight on each folder, the emails are there but as I said, now cannot get them imported into OE so they actually show up!

    Hi Mary,

Check out Outlook Express Repair (outlookexpressrepair dot net) it looks like it should help sort out your problems. Though I'd strongly recommend switching from Outlook express, I personally love Thunderbird as it allows me to do exactly what I need to do without any issues.

Good luck sorting out your email problem.

Hi thank you coolhobo. Oh dear, I have already tried Outlook Express Repair, it will retrieve everything NOT lost (which isn't much) but all the files/folders losts and now locked into a dbx extension it cannot seem to repair.

I've already installed Thunderbird (I love it used it before I had to change computers) but LOL now my partner cannot remember his password to the IP. Very frustrating as they will not help me "privacy laws" as I am not the primary account holder.

Am hoping partner can recall his password, as I agree Thunderbird is fantastic and I have never had an issue with that program at all. I think that's why OE caught me totally off guard.

Again, thank you all for your help. Warriors are fantastic the way they come to your aid when in strife.
