how does programs like market samurai access database like adwords and majestic seo to name a few? is it by API? if so, what language is the best platform to create such programs that draws from independent databases and and transform data into information?

p.s. im asking this because i have 0% knowledge in programming but i am dead interested in creating a tool useful for IMers.

Some of it is scraping, some of it is API.

I prefer Ruby for API access, usually integrated within a Ruby on Rails application.

Pick something simple to start with. For example - try to write to the Godaddy auction API, I just recently used that for my project. It's clean, well documented and will get you started on getting the experience you need.
