Hi

I need some helping transferring a blog from one hostgator account to another and some other similar things.

I am fine uploading things but when it comes to the databases they freak me out. Would appreciate a pm if you can help me.

I have 1 blog and another blog on a subdomain that need doing.

Plus I am also in the middle of another transfer and the database isn't working correctly.

I would also appreciate some help from someone today because obviously the site is down at the moment.

Have you read the Wordpress tutorial for transferring sites? I followed these directions a few months ago and it worked out pretty well. (See the "Moving wordpress to a new server" section. It has info about transferring the database too).

    Thanks guys

I have found someone to do it and I am sure I will hire him for other things too.

And yes I have read many of the tutorials but with having a lot of different sites to manage it is much easier to outsource the task.

That's good to hear. Looks like not a problem anymore.

Transfering the DB is easy. Assuming you have access to phpmyadmin (or any other mysql client), all you need to do is export the DB (not tables) to an sql.gz file and import this file on your new host.

With the DB re-installed, you'll need to change 2 DB records in the wp_options table: home and site_url. Search for these 2 fields and enter the new info.

As for the files, I'd zip all the content other than pictures and "heavy" media and unzip on the new host.

    good luck,
    WP

Are you using CPanel hosts? If you use CPanel as your control panel AAALLLL of this can be done automatically for you with absolutely no hassles. I would definitely check into it before thinking about doing it manually.
