Can anyone recommend a top-notch, FAST WordPress web host (scalable from shared to ded) ?

I'm more interested in a host with genuine technical wherewithall and xlnt support than low price. Not interested in hostgator and similar...

I'd like to test launch some sites from a shared hosting acct...then be ready to scale up to (maybe a VPS and then) dedicated (preferably managed).

I'm on the west coast USA and prefer a host with their own datacenter.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Hostgator is one of the slowest hosting services. Only suitable for very low traffic sites. That's why I specifically excluded them in my original post in this thread. Still looking for snappy hosting services, if anyone has any other suggestions. Thanks.

Also going to recommend HostGator. Their servers work really well with WordPress sites and they have great support by live chat, phone, etc.

Since you specifically are asking for NOT hostgator, check out Liquidweb - I've been with them for many, many years and they are fantastic.
