Anyone have a good tutorial on securing html sites? I don't need a wordpress tutorial, I've got that covered, but lately been worrying about my other html sites.

Google searches don't turn up anything decent. TIA

There is a wealth of stuff out there both script snippets & tuts for validating form inputs server side to protect against attacks and probing. Are you worried about anything specific?

Depends on each html website. If you let me take a look at your website, i can help improving the security. Add me on Skype if interested.

If it is just a regular HTML site then the only security problem you could have is server side. Unless you have some contact form or something like that. Otherwise there really is no way to hack into the HTML per say. No SQL injections or anything like that.

Pure HTML is processed in the users browser, so hacking would not occur on the server level.

As goosefrabah said if it's a flat html site you shouldn't have anything to worry about as far as hacking.

Really, we could use more information about what you are trying to accomplish. Do you have forms on the pages you are concerned about, or are you talking about putting an SSL Cert on there?

Download Secure HTML 1.6 [164 KB]
Here's how to create a password protected HTML page quickly...
    1) Press the button Input File and select the desired HTML file.
    2) Correct the path and name of Output File, if needed. If you want to overwrite the input file, you can use the same name.
    3) Enter Password (not less than 4 characters).
    4) Check the box View Output File if you want to view the password protected HTML file in your default browser.
    5) Press the Encode button.

Indeed, if your pages are just HTML, then they are safe as long as no hackers access your server. The problem in this case is the web server and any other server you have running on your server (DNS, mail, etc.)

Normally, while transferring any sensitive information in concern of online buying and selling then you should always aware with SSL certificates security.

Usually, SSL certificates includes two different types such as Domain Validate and Organization Validation SSL certificates. If organization using EV SSL certificate then it will more secure than Domain validation SSL certificates.

Online stores also use WildCard SSL certificate security which secure entire web site pages including their sub domains.

Apart from this, you can justify SSL certificate secured web site through https web site.

If you still can't get solve your problem then check this article How can I tell if a web page is secure?

        Hope this information helps you.

It depends on what OS is on your server and what web server you are using. There is no such thing as securing html (unles you are talking about ssl encription). It is always about securing your OS and securing your web server.
For example if you are using apache as a web server you can find a lot of info just by googling "secure apache".

If you have pure HTML website then it wouldn't occur for hacking, but if your web site have serve side little bit coding then you should have basic SSL certificate from RapidSSL which will cost you around $10 for a year. Wish you good luck!

    Hello BenQ,

you didnt really mention what exactly bothered you about your site.

You can visit OWASP site to get very useful information about web coding. After that, the only way to find out is to audit your site for vulnerabilities and start from there.

    Hope it helps

Plain old HTML is pretty much hack proof. Well if you server does not get hacked or something you can leave the html files and you can be sure that they wont get hacked.

But when you add some scripting language to the html files (eg, php, asp) then its a different story. Your database can be compromised you site can be compromised.

There are loads of tutorials on the internet where you can find how to properly and securely validate forms and save you site from hackers.

    Hope this helps
