Want to get started into programming..

Hello everyone, I have wanted to start learning programming for a while but have never gotten into it for more then a few weeks at a time. So I was wondering if anyone can answer a few questions to help me get started, thanks in advance

I wan't to be able to make games like qwop, or desktop tower defence. Which language is the best to learn to make stuff like this?
Which language in general is best to start with? (assuming I have no prior experience)
What is a good resource I can access for free?
What are some of the fun stuff you experienced programmers do?
If anyone has any tips, it would be nice to hear those as well.

I suggest learning C# .NET, especially when it comes to game applications. In fact, I would encourage you, after some familiarity with C# to then look into CLI, a C++ specific .NET language because performance is key with games.

As for development, any developers has to have the temperament to write code all day and the focus and dedication to complete what they set out to accomplish. All the free literature in the world will only help if you pursue your goal of learning with zeal. To those who excel awaits a world of opportunities because good developers are hard to find.

As for fun stuff, that's relative. You can write game, banking software, algorithms for scientific use ... It's all good!!!

Programming is not an easy thing to take control. You really have to work hard and you have to work hard regularly in order to get the ultimate result.

Programming is much easier if you work hard and push through things when you don't understand some aspect of it.
Immerse yourself in your chosen language environment and do lots of constant study while you are solving problems.
    Good luck.

If you are planning to learn a programming skill, I recommend learning App development. It is much easier than most people think. The hard part has been the marketing of your app, but not anymore with iTunes and app distribution sites.

You mentioned you would like to develop games, well this is the platform to do this.
Games are bigger than any other app category — both for the social web and for mobile devices. Get more facts and statistics HERE
