    I have been looking for a good social script. PHPFox definitely looks the best, except for the fact that it cost money

    Never-mind, as I pass most of the time with WordPress so I feel about buddypress....

    You can use buddypres... It is free, well documented and has a big community.... surely you can choose something else if you can not find the exact function while using buddypress but don't forget to search plugins for buddypresss may be everything is ready for you and you can just make your webste in fly with buddypress, who knows?
