web or app programming?

PROGRAMMING

I don't have any real experience with programming and have had a desire to learn but I'm stuck at which direction to go. I need advice from people with a lot of experience with web or app programming and which has been better for them to make a living with.

That depends on a variety of factors....

If you enjoy Javascript and PHP..... I would go the web applications route....

If you love Javascipt and HTML, you could create mobile applications.....

If you prefer Java, you could create desktop applications in JavaFX....

There is money to made in all of them..... All you have to do is create products that solve problems...

Great advice. Also, not developing in Flash is also a good move. IMO.

Since you don't have any real experience with programming, the direction you take at this point is probably not all that important. That said, making apps is generally a little more difficult, requiring more experience. It usually pays a little more though, so the upside can be significant.

Web programming is probably easier for you to get started with. But like I said, since you don't have any real experience, you'll need to study a programming language, any programming language, and then take it from there. Once you are familiar with basic concepts and theories, you'll be better capable of judging for yourself which direction you should choose.

I have done well with web programming doing RIA's and dynamic sites. However from a monetary perspective I believe you can make money with either one. One thing I like about web programming is that you for a large part get to bypass the OS wars.

I would suggest that you play around with JavaScript and see if you like that kind of work. I suggest JS since you all ready have a JS interpreter (your browser) and are ready to start messing around with it right now.

PHP and Javascript is programming language I fall in love with.... It's easy to understand and of course wide range used. When you enjoy with anything you do everything will be okay.

Why dont you give it a try to all and then find out which one suites you best and then do a mastery over one.

  yes because the site are made up of combination of both html and php nowadays people prefer html5 due to searchengines so you should have a little knowledge of html 5

Also Adobe plans to end development of its Flash Player for mobile browsers. "We will no longer continue to develop Flash Player in the browser to work with new mobile device configurations following the upcoming release of Flash Player for Android and BlackBerry PlayBook"..

It all depends on what you want to do. And then think of a development tool that could be good for that. For example, i code desktop apps that have some integration with the web and use Visual Basic 5 (yes 5, not even 6!), and everything works fantastic (can't imagine the amount of time that would take me to make them with Java for example).

My advice: Think of the kind of business that you want to develop first. Then go for the tools. I know lot of people that learn C, Java etc and they don't know why.

They don't know what they want to do. I'd put the business first (unless you want to start developing as a hobby, which is also a good alternative).

you can learn vb net, c, c+ usually there is a lot of progamming languages
that you can learn all depned on your skills
but you need time to learn so
you can go on youtube and start looking for tutorials
this is very useful because you can learn a lot of languages
wich increase your possibilities, when you want to create software
or apps.

  You need to learn html if you plain to do anything web. Start there, its a simple markup language. Then when you want dynamic features move into a programming language, php is good but there are many other alternatives. VB.NET is also very easy to learn, you can download visual studio express and get started quick!

Actually, it doesn't matter both provide lots of opportunities. In order to make a living with it you've got to learn the knowledge at a deeper level and read lots of books.

Ideally, you should focus on both because mobile apps will be relying on web/internet for data exchange

If you prefer using PHP, HTML, and CSS, go with web programming. But if you Java, then choose app programming.
