I'm building a Wordpress Competitor. Who wants to be a part of something big?

I'm a developer. I've coded Wordpress plugins and themes for years. However, Wordpress has problems...

...and I think I have solved every single one.

It's called Servant.

Video Here: http://servant.wistia.com/medias/x6v9vt0510

I'll take any hackers I can get. There is huge opportunity in building your own service that runs on Servants.

Private message me and I will give you more info. There is real opportunity here. If you are a developer who wants to go big, and be part of something extraordinary, please private message me.

Kindest regards,

AC

Is this going to be opensource as well? Is this built over Rails?

I really liked the video on your site. This seems like an interesting project.

Diversion52 Thanks for the positive feedback. This a CMS in the cloud, so there is nothing to open source. It's simply a CMS for storing types of content, with an amazing API. Anyone can sign up to make Client Apps, which are Servant's version of Wordpress plugins. Please sign up for the Private Beta and I will show you how amazing it is very soon!

      Best,

    Hi SmartDept,

What is the business problem that you're trying to solve?

If I were you I'd put the code on github and try to show some potential uses of the software.
Use some examples that shows your app in a great light.

I know WordPress may not be perfect but it is an affordable solution (including premium themes and plugins) to small and medium sites.
Most of the clients don't care about the underlying software but they do care about the cost of the site, design, plugins etc.

Are you using WordPress? Have you tried qSandbox yet?

Want to make sure I understand this...

You are keeping all code and content on a server or group of servers and people build sites that rely on these severs to serve their content.

What happens if your cloud servers go down?

What happens if you go out of business?

Does everyones sites just quit working?

Can all the code be installed on the clients site so it does NOT rely on other servers or services being up and running 24/7?

That's all the questions I have for now.

    Rob,

Yes. Like google, facebook, twitter, amazon, and every other service on the internet, if our servers goes down, so does the service.

The code base can not be installed on your own server because that is all of the complexity I am trying to avoid.

I'm simply making a content API. It holds your content in a separate database and serves it to whatever endpoint you connect it to. By separating the content from the place it is displayed you get total freedom. It's the logical way to move forward.

Sure, you can still serve your content to your Wordpress site. But, since it's not stuck there, you can simultaneously serve your content to 100 Wordpress sites and 100 mobile apps, all at the same time, with it all in sync.

    It's tremendous power.

Are you going to make it easy for users to move their data to a different platform? For instance, if a user decides he later wants to use Wordpress or a different open CMS, will you provide users a way to export their content in a format that can be easily imported into another system?

mojojuju - Servant is designed to be exactly that. In essence, Servant is just a database for your content, that you can connect to any endpoint. Your Wordpress site being one of them. But your content will never be stuck in any specific place, since it is backed-up with your Servant. Any product, event, special deal, real estate, blog, etc.. platform will no longer be able to keep your content hostage if you decide to leave.

Like Wordpress has plug-ins, Servant has Client Applications. Each client application distributes your content somewhere. You simply connect your Servant to a Client Application with one click to do something with your content, like distribute it to a Wordpress blog, or launch a mobile application, or serve your products to 30 e-commerce websites. I'm sure there will be Client Applications that will allow you to export all of your content to some archaic format like a spreadsheet, but Servant is designed to be a safe place where you can keep content and let it be free, unconstrained by any particular application.

Sending out the first email in two days with an awesome introduction video. I hope everyone gets on the mailing list.

I will show a bit of Servant, and the first Client Application, which people can use to launch their own Special Deals Mobile Web App entirely white-labeled, and free. And the best part is, all of the Special Deals are kept with your Servant, and not the Client Application. So, you can ditch it if you want, and all of your Special Deal records will be kept safe

Andrew - Thanks for understanding. I love internet marketers though and I know that they will get tremendous value out of this once they understand it. They will be able to create robust web presences for their clients, across all devices, simply by clicking a few "Servant Connect" buttons.

        Andrew, what's your background?

Many of the people posting lack the comprehension of what your service does, and probably don't even understand what an API is.

I feel this idea can be great if you work out all the implementation issues (ie: easily integrate into wordpress, other open source services, etc). As can be seen by the posters above you will need to have a very dumbed down explanation of what your service does for it to be used by the laymen.

How on earth do you think you know what people who have posted know or do not know? Your assumptions are both arrogant AND ignorant.

  • Looks interesting but I'm not sure if I completely understand it.

If I understand correctly then the webmaster creates content on your cloud database then in their client application they use code that liases with your API instead of reading it from a database?

In which case it kinda competes more with MySQL than Wordpress? Or is there something I've missed?

Do you buy competitor backlink data from the likes of MajesticSEO / SEOProfiler / SEOMoz / AHRefs?

Manage it with Backlinks Explorer to help you get more backlinks more quickly.

      Hi Backlinks,

Not the webmaster, anyone... can enter content with their Servant, where it is kept safe and liberated.

Then you simply connect your Servant to as many client applications (endpoints) as you'd like, to populate them with your pre-made content.

For example, if you want to sell products online, why should you be stuck selling them only through one service (e.g., etsy or amazon). Instead, you would be able to connect your Servant to as many online store services as you'd like. Populating all of them with the same products.

This way Users can enter and exit different applications rapidly, without worrying about losing their content, and they can also show the same content across multiple applications.

      It's real freedom.
