How does this Website KNOW!?! I voted.

Ok. So there's a website called SlickDeals.net and you post on the forums, deals, freebies, etc.

So I log in to my regular username and post a Freebie. There is a Rating system on there so anytime someone clicks the "Thumbs Up" you get a Thumbs Up and a Gold thumbs up icon on your thread. Likewise for thumbs down.

So I post the freebie and give myself a "Thumbs Up" and vote. Cool, except I see some people voting "Thumbs Down" for no reason.

I decide I want to thumbs up my thread a bit. So I make a new account. Crap -- It sees something familiar to my previous session because next to the thumb rater it says "You've Already Voted".

So I go ahead, clear my cache/cookies/history, Etc. I change my ip address, I Clear Flash Cookies. And I register a new user name... I go back to Slickdeals.net and Bammo. It says "You've Already Voted".

So now I ask you programmers. How does it recognize this !? And how can I avoid it?

MAC addresses aren't available to web sites.

BTW, OP, why do you think you need to game the system? SD is a great site. I don't want to help you tamper with their ratings system.

You have to post a deal that people will give thumbs up to for no reason.

Or you could go on fiverr and get lots of thumbs up for $5

...Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just set there.

Either they are tracking your IP address or they have used cookies to check that you have voted or not. There might be possible of getting mac address trackign by them too
