domain.com + hostgator - WP install

I'm doing something wrong here.

I register domain.
Change nameservers.
Go to my hostgator CP and 'Add on Domain' to add new domain.
I click on Fantastico's creepy looking smile.
Install WP.

And nothing happens.
Lands me at domains.com's parked page.

Help greatly appreciated.
Thanks

I'd advise not to install through Fantastico. You're better off installing the latest version, you'll generally end up with more features and less security problems that way (not that any script is really 100% secure unless it's so trivial that it's practically useless.. lol.. but the latest Wordpress is more secure than the Fantastico version).

As far as the problem with landing on a domains.com landing page.. how long did you wait after pointing the domain to HostGator's nameservers? DNS propogation can take up to 48 hours.

Yeah, Fantastico usually lags behind the latest version of the scripts it installs (sometimes by several months or more). I think they just recently updated their Wordpress install to 2.7 while the latest version is 2.7.1 and 2.8 is right around the corner. And of course, depending on how often they update thier cpanel/fantastico data, the latest version available on your web host can also lag behind the latest version that's actually available in the most "up to date" version of Fantastico.

Fantastico does make installing scripts a lot quicker and easier, but I prefer to install the latest version by hand and take advantage of any new features and bug fixes that have been made available since the last Fantastico update. It can be intimidating at first if you're not much of a "techie" but once you get the hang of it, installing them by hand isn't really too much harder than installing through Fantastico.

Note that as of Wordpress 2.7 (I think that's when they added this feature), Wordpress has a "one-click upgrade" inside your Dashboard whenever a new version is released.. but if you installed through Fantastico and you use the "one-click upgrade" in your dashboard, Fantastico will not know that you upgraded to a newer version and this can cause some confusion the next time your host downloads a Fantastico update that includes a newer version of the script.

This shouldn't be a problem, not with wordpress anyway.

Once you've installed via the blue fantastico smiley - LOL ! that's how I described it way back when........ it's never frightened me. ;-)

Just log in to your wordpress and hit the update button.

    Mynt,

Your problem is more than likely, you haven't set up the add on domain correctly.
Check out hostgators FAQ's and see if they point you in the right direction.

I read your post.....! did the others?

You'll need to wait few hours for your new domain name nameservers information to be propagated.
