Price comparison site info needed.

I have been having a conversation with a friend of mine about starting a website.

Unfortunately I am unable to devulge what the website he has inmind, but it is similar to skyscanners.com, hotel.com and all them comparison websites that bring in pricing, product and package information from many other websites with in the same industry.

Whether it is comparing flights, hotels, hostels, insurance, internet providers, cable tv, whatever.

Does any have any idea of how they get that information onto their site?

Is it a plugin? Widget? Or something else?

    Lets see if I can answer this myself.

    There needs to be affiliate links set up for the companies my friends website will link too in the compare.

    for example, if I was comparing flights, say New York to London, I would need to contact and set up an affiliate program with all or as many airlines that do this route, like Virgin, British Airways, KLM, AA and so on. not just for the affiliates though but also for the links to upto date information.

    is this correct?

    I am also assuming the links would need to be put in a widget or plugin so that they could be compared.

      That approach could work, but depending on what sort of prices you're comparing, there are also numerous services that offer APIs aggregating prices for you. I can't personally vouch for any of these as right now, but examples include https://www.semantics3.com/ and Our APIs | Skimlinks. And there are plenty of others too.

      Again, I haven't used these personally, but they (or others like them) may make it easier to get what you're looking for.

    Thanks, I can pass these links to my mate to look at.

    The links seem like the type of thing the site would need.
