Do I have to download Wordpress again for another site?

I currently have 2 sites, both with Wordpress. One is 2.7 that hasn't been updated yet and one is 2.8, just downloaded last night. I did that because I tried to change the wp-configure.php page for the 2nd site last night and use the same core files for the 2nd install and it never would change to the database / user name I needed for my 2nd site. So I ended up downloading 2.8 and using that for my 2nd site.

I'm about to start work on my 3rd site but I don't want to have to download 2.8 yet again just to have a different wp-configure.php page for this site. Is there any way to use the core files that I already have to install this 3rd site? I'm sure people with multiple sites using Wordpress don't download the program again every time they start a new site.

    Hi Christina

You only need to download WP 2.8 once. The only file you will need to change is your wp-config.php file, the file that holds your database configuration information.

I'd suggest that you expand the ZIP file you downloaded from WordPress into a convenient folder on your computer or home network. Then make multiple copies of the wp-config.php file and rename them to include your site name (i.e. wp-config-mysite.com.php). Edit each file with the database information for that specific site.

You can then upload the whole package to each site you want to us eWordPress with. Once you have it uploaded rename the relevant copy back to wp-config.php and delete the others.

Another "trick" you may want to use is to expand and place any themes you want to have available on all you sites into the wp-content/themes directory before you FTP everything up to your server. This way you'll have a selection of your favorite themes on each site already waiting for you.

There is another way to easily have multiple Wordpress sites: Host your site in Cpanel Web Hosting that has Fantastico Script built in it.

You don't have to upload anything. Just login to your CPanel Web Hosting Control Panel. Choose Fantastico Script. Choose Wordpress Blog. Follow some simple instructions. And in just a few clicks your Wordpress Blog site is ready. Simply repeat the simple process for another one. Each one will have its own sub domains. Let's say you want to have blogs for dog training, gardening and golfing. Your URLs can be:

      yoursitename.com/dogtraining
      yoursitename.com/gardening
      yoursitename.com/golfing

You can also change the theme. But you have to upload the themes you want before you can use it.
