Successful Opt-In Page Redirect on Subsequent Visits

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had a script or know where one is that can do the following :

Visitor A comes to index.html which is Opt-In page.

If Visitor A opts-in and goes to Page B.

On Next visit, if Visitor A has been to Page B on a previous visit (can only get there by opting in), then he is direct to Page B, or Page C, etc.

He/She does not see Page A again unless he/she has NEVER opted in (i.e. Seen Page B)

If he/she NEVER opts in - they will always see Page A until they do.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mark

The most reasonable way to accomplish this is to drop a cookie on the user's computer when they hit page B. Then when anyone comes to page A, before you display page A you look for the cookie. If it's there, you redirect them to page B or C before they can ever see page A.

It's not going to be 100% reliable since users can delete or disallow cookies, but it's the best approach.

I don't know of a packaged script to accomplish this, but any experienced web programmer (including me) could do it for you.

    Steve,

Thank you for your reply, and you are right - the cookie is not 100% reliable. However, if 1 out of 100 people have to opt-in twice, it is successful in my book.

FYI - the thread below has solved the riddle for me :

Cant post links until I have posted 20 times for some reason.

Thanks for your help and I will keep you in mind for future programming needs.

    Take Care,

@Nick818d: Yes, there is. It can be done in Javascript, PHP, or a combination of the two.

But why in the world did you post your question as a reply in this thread? You ought to start a new thread. What you did is known as thread hijacking, and it's considered very rude.
