I need a sysadmin how to find one?

I'm sure there are some sysadmins on this forum that you could vet via references etc.

The main thing you want to do is make sure they are familiar with your setup. I assume you are using a LAMP stack?

If it were me, I would start by trying to find connections via your friends using LinkedIn. Being a "professional" social network you can get more of a sense of someone's background and if they have real world experience in server management.

You can spin up a free web server via Amazon (for up to a year) and use that as a test to see if they can manage a server the way you want it. It comes bare bones so they will need to know their stuff to get it up and running with whatever you want on it. Maybe just a simple test to see if they can get a wordpress site up and running on that server. I would use a throwaway domain for the test.

You may have to pay them for the time, but there is nothing better than on the job test in an environment that can be spun down without touching your real stuff... in my opinion.

Hi Joe. It depends on what you need done. Your first approach is ask your host Tech Support. They should be able to handle a lot of tasks for free, included in your contract. This should include configuration changes, installing software, backups and so on. Some ISPs provide more help than others. These might cost more, but it sounds like your main concerns are security and how to vet a sysadmin; I assume you trust the hosting provider.

If you need services that go beyond what is included, perhaps your host has for-pay addon services. Or can refer you to someone they will stake their reputation on.

You might find problem in long term if you find any freelancer, best way would be to buy a managed dedicated server where your hosting company monitors the server , updates modules for you, even reboots the server to keep you updated with any technical help.

I want my server in germany. I already found other hosts in other countries, but I am not interested. So i need the service, not the hosting.

Any link anyone can recommend to install different modules, optimize server etc ?

System admin have migrated to some new terms in the search for what you guys are looking for. Try looking for people with DevOps experience. System Admin don't leave moms basement and generally are sitting in a DC in a glass bubble when not in the basement cave. BRB mom just finished my hot pockets. lol j/k
