I would advise starting by articles, Create a account on Ezine Articles then produce or purchase some articles from Good warrior services(500 words on your niece) then get a compelling signature on the articles with your offer which in turn if accepted would become a solid backlink, Once all done with that site move on to another article place rewrite the article and repeat

also if you Publish by blogging then use Feed burner and send it as a Rss to pass your site on to create links and social media places like reddit or dig.com which will sync and create links if popular
