A subdomain has nothing to do with the main domain. PR and authority does not just magically flow to pages on a domain. It flows through links.

No, it is not. I'm not sure if Mike and I will disagree here, but a subdomain is a whole new web entity while a page on an established domain is a document on an existing web entity giving them inherently different characteristics in terms of domain associated benefits.

I agree. Relevancy. Crawling characteristics. And a host of other benefits for a page versus a subdomain.

All "documents" crawlable by Googlebot. That can include things like PDF's, etc.

Just think of a sub domain as another page on your main domain. It doesn't share PR or anything like that. It will need to be worked on.
