Penguin 3.0 fixed in 24 hours

Hey, WF, I was very upset yesterday to find my website gone from google.
Not just to position 200 or 300 for my keywords, but completely gone home page and only some internal pages were ranking a bit.
I use this PBN and 301 redirect. So I've heard about 301 and decided to clean up all recent BL for 301 redirect (12 months worth basically).

And this morning, here it is, back at the top

Maybe it's too early to celebrate, but it's literally been 18 hours, I'm so pumped right now!

My lesson: it's all about links that recently had a drop in PR.
And if you do a 301, that means links to 301 had to stop some time ago after 301 was enabled. So my 301 started about 18 months ago, big G probably figured that you could have some links for 6 more months, but then velocity has to drop. Just my 2c.

Good luck to all!

When was the last time public PR updated?

I was adding PR3 links in June (about 15 of them), every single one of them became PR2. And I removed them all yesterday.
      Hope it helps.

Just got back from a #BrightonSEO. I was given room 404 in the hotel I stayed at. Couldn’t find it anywhere!

Epic fail. There was no PR update since well before June.

Don't start rejoicing yet. When a penalised domain is redirected to a new domain, the new domain usually ranks well for a few days or weeks and then drops like a stone. In most cases, the penalty moves to the new domain through the 301.

I may be reading him wrong but he seems to think a redirect is a way of cleaning links

Sorry, I wasn't very clear. A 301 redirect was done 18 months ago, but i continued to build links for the old website, because it worked. Maybe I had too many links(and some of them looked spammy for G) and a new algo detected it.

We should ask Icematikx and qwaiz, they seem to know it better and have something useful to add here.

    Icematikx, qwaiz - chillax.
"bogus theory" or not, but it worked.
Deleting all links that were added during previous 12 months worked.
You folks here need to go out more often, no need to be so tense.

If you've seen a recent PR drop your domain is probably carrying a new Google penalty and Google has dropped your PR accordingly.

Google updated PR last December, so if a domain has a PR change it has to be a penalty. Or if PR went up the removal of a penalty: I have a domain that was carrying a penalty, was listed as PR0, fixed the issue, submitted a reinclusion request (few months back), penalty lifted PR recovered to PR3.

Have you got anything under Google Webmaster tools like a message about unnatural links?

Yup, PR for this page dropped too (as well as for recent PBN pages), I just checked it's PR=0 right now (I think it was 5 or 6 before), but idgf about PR, it's SERP is back to where it was. It happened only on this particular page (other pages were not affected and other pages didn't have 301 to them), the domain itself was not affected. Sorry, I won't tell what domain is it, but I don't own it, it's a big popular website out there.

      Good luck to all!

If you where using a 301 for ranking, and then it got a penalty imposed on it for ranking. And then you removed the 301. Where is the page that was ranking getting its power from with the 301 removed?

Or do you just call Matt Cutts, Poppa?

Hey, maybe all these was just a coincidence. Relax you all haters out there, I was just trying to help those interested. Move on, if you're too smart and know it all type of prick.

Nobody here is a "know it all type of prick". This forum is one where debates always ensue. My opinion always differs from that of my American counterpart Mr. Anthony for example.

If you can't handle debate or opinions, then SEO isn't for you - especially since knowledge is formulated from your own studies and knowledge. There are no publicly released algorithms or guidance. It is down to you to figure it out.

Unfortunately, my opinion, as well as others, as demonstrated, is different than yours. You should be prepared for debate and others opinions whenever you put forward a statement such as the one you did. If you can't handle it, get out of the business.

Good lord. Why is stuff like these even allowed on the forums. Let's assume for two minutes that this guys fantasy land theory actually worked. How long do you think your rankings are gonna be around for with your cool 301 redirect trick?

Have you seen the countless forum threads about people getting smacked a few weeks after 301'ng last Penguin?

This won't work, and is down right bad advice. Even if by some random change it worked for a few days. This will not sustain.

I think you should longer, usually this kind update take about 3 to 4 weeks to see the full effect. During this period your ranking will be like google dancing!
