Voice-based search queries have not traditionally been a significant consideration for search engine optimization (SEO); people usually would rather type their queries into a webpage directly, avoiding the errors and that can come with automated voice translation. However, voice recognition technology is becoming more accurate and pervasive, making it a possible influencer for future search engine algorithm developments.

Google reports that 55 percent of teens are now using voice search, with 40 percent of adults currently using it. Those numbers don't indicate an overwhelming majority by any stretch of the imagination, but they're certainly up from numbers we were seeing just five years ago. Voice search is becoming more popular, and will likely continue to grow as the technology becomes more advanced and accurate.

Interesting read, but it's impossible to remove keywords from search altogether. If I whip out my phone and do a voice search for "how can I lose weight before my wedding" it still pushes results to the top that are focused on specific keywords in this niche.

If you follow the algorithm updates and begin to move your content more into search relevance instead of keyword spamming then you will naturally float to the top for these kinds of searches anyway - whether voice operated or not.

Good read though, thanks for sharing

Don't think we'll be seeing a surge of voice search. Teens use it? So when it's late at night and their parents are in the living room they're saying "giant tits" into their microphones? There's a lot of negatives to voice search. It's been about since forever with those softwares that let you give commands with your voice. "Open Firefox. Search car wallpapers." It's not really new.

Interesting thing but I think there may be no big difference in SEO.

It will probably take a long time to become common like text searches (if at all). Even if it does become common, it might not make much of a difference in search results. I think if someone does a text search for "how to lose weight in a week" and another person speaks the same thing while doing a voice search, Google should provide both with the same results. This is just my wild guess.
