Hi Guys

I am trying to understand link building

Firstly back linking is simply having links going to your site, correct?

How many of these do I need to get a high PR score?

If I get to many to fast will i get slapped by google?

How many should i be getting per month or week?

I am looking at submitting articles to around 40 article directories will I get links from them if so what type?

i no about links just pointing way from your site how do you build them?

this forum is amazing Ive learnt so much

    That's correct.

    - How many links is undetermined because there are many other factors.

    - Yes, you'd get slapped for doing too much at once, but I've seen sites get about 50 links a day and still be alright.

    - To be safe, I'd try to start slow and get no more than 20 a week and build up as your site ages.

    - Yes, you should get links from them.. not sure what you mean about what type. They're backlinks, what other type would it be? Some are follow and some are nofollow though.

    - Not sure if I get this question neither. Are you asking about linking out to other sites?

So when you say dont get more links than 20 a week should i be drip feeding my article directories, not submitting to them all at once everyday?

I thought that the pr score shows the quality of your links. Isn't that why when you do a pr analysis on Market Samurai. If the competition has mainly links with a pr of 0 to 1 your in decent shape. But if they have lots of links with much higher pr levels you may struggle is this not the case?

Also are you better off with less high quality links or more low quality links?

amerigo, you are saying 200 links a day is safe as long as they are quality directories

Kevin, you think more like 20 a week to start with thats quite a difference

      thanks

Go for quality links. As long as they are of decent quality, then you can do 200 a day.

Of decent quality? Perhaps a better advice in that regard would be to find relevant links, but what is "quality" link? What determines a link to be of quality? PR4+? If so, just say so.

decent quality backlinks means relevancy not how strong your PR is

That's a better answer, but the reason I bring this up is newbies don't know what "quality links" are and how to get them.

In order to get a high PR you need more backlinks. The more backlinks you have the more are the chances of getting a high PR. And there are many ways of link building.

    1) Create a useful, interesting content.
    2) Write thematic articles & submit the articles to article directories.
    3) Participate helpfully in forums which allow a text link to your site in a signature.
    4) Give away free e-books that contain links to your site.
    5) Create simple web-based free software. Tell other sites, newsletters and forums about it and ask for a link to it.
    6) Create downloadable software which contains links to your site.
    7) Create a Blog and get it listed in Blog directories.
    8) Submit your site to many high PR directories
    9) Exchange links with other sites of similar theme.

Look, it all depends on where your site is right now. If it's a brand new site, I wouldn't want to do more than 20 a week, but if it's been up for a few months, you'd be alright with a higher backlink each day.

My site is doing fine with just 5 links a day and no more than 30 a week. I'm on page one for many difficult and commercial keywords.

In phase of link building...Its highly recommended to have home page be optimized for not more than 5 keyword and have each inner page be optimize for more than 1 or 2 keyword.

Not just site imriedu is the content... I think to answer is to think like human.. What makes a person click on the link? Relevant content of course. If a visitor is looking for information on how to pass a high school exam, then they would most likely click on your link if your article is talking about that topics.

What link building software do you refer to?

Its not a labor of love - its just labor ... its just an algorithm - not a feeling thinking human being. The formula for better rankings is out there and simple.

-Quality content - on page SEo the site and the articles you write
-Backlinks ... lots of them ... from lots of places - relevant, irrelevant sites, high pr and NO Pr pages, dofollow and nofollow ... they all help just go get them and make sure you can get your keywords in the anchor text.
      -Bookmark the backlinks
-Use RSS Feeds and aggregation sites as well

Sometimes I think folks have far too much time on their hands and are just hobbyists tinkering with websites - not trying to be serious about their rankings and online business ... and giving people old wives tales as advice.

What penalty will the SE's give you for using link building softwares?

PR is all about backlinks, the more your backlink the higher your chance of having greater PR. If you can have a link in a higher PR site there is more chances of increase PR, But really you don't need to go after PR, chase higher position for your desired keywords in search engines.

Getting too many links at a time with this same anchor text can raise a flag ... and the links wont look natural, missing up the anchor text is the key.

Article submittion is a good way of increasing backlink and even getting traffic for the site. But you don't just post a article to different directory but rather spin the articles by changing the title and few other things making each one unique in its own way. Then all the directories won't approve you at same thing so that won't rise a flag of getting links fast.
