New website not getting search engine traffic

Hi there,

I'm hoping you can give me some advice!

I launched a website around two and a half weeks ago and unfortunately it's not getting any traffic from Google, despite most of the pages being indexed. Most days I'm lucky to get three or four visitors from the search engine.

To give you some background, the site is packed with unique information about a popular travel destination. I wrote 250 carefully researched pages (around 400-500 words per page) - these were all optimised and published in one big batch with several updates since then. The URL has not been used before, as far as I'm aware, and Google webmaster tools is showing no crawl errors or manual webspam actions.

I have built a couple of good quality links from sites with pagerank 6 or 7. One thing that seems weird, the number of impressions being shown in websmaster tools seems to jump from around 600 in one day to almost zero on another day.

So, my question is whether all this is normal? Do I just need to be more patient? Or is there something else that could be causing this? I know that travel is a competitive niche but I would expect at least some traffic, given that I have so much useful content that I am sure people are searching for.

Thanks for your help!

I would give google at least one month if your are using a new domain.
If you are using a expired domain with authority you should see some traffic as long as the
domain isn't blacklisted (old autoblog, etc...)

One other thing is if you are just writing random articles throwing about hundred of different
keywords out there it's not likely you'll ever get any real traffic to your site.

If you are going for the travel niche I would recommend you to do some intense keyword
research and find the ones that are only getting 50 to 100 visitors each month and write
    material specially for the keyword.

When you start to rank number one for these easy low keywords and people actually stay
on your site Google will start to give your domain more authority and you'll start to get more
traffic from Google on more difficult keywords.

This is safe and most white hat way you can go about it and takes time, but if you are looking
for a quick fix I would recommend the blackhatworld marketplace, even though most of the
methods and services are likely going to hurt you in the future there are some that don't and
even you lose your rankings after a month you'll get a clear picture if it's worth reclaiming.

So in my total 100% honest opinion, if you are searching for SEO advice I would go to the
    blackhatworld or backlinko

      Thanks for the quick reply!

I'm not really keen on engaging in any dodgy SEO practices - I want the content to stand up on its own as it's really unique stuff. The keywords are all quite different but tied together by the fact that they're all in the same destination (hotel reviews, restaurant tips, etc).

But I might have to do more obviously targeted stuff just to get the ball rolling. If anyone else has suggestions as to what might be going on then please do let me know!

First, though, you need to decide which ball you want to be rolling. No amount of "taking action" will help, if you set off in the wrong direction: to monetize a small travel site, you probably need a traffic-generation plan that isn't based on getting traffic from Google.

You might need some little patience to get your unique keywords idexed and get crawled in google, the domain is still young and you might need some paid advert from Facebook to target specific audience to the domain, over-time your keyword will make a way for you in google search soon.

    Yes, competely normal.

Publishing content just on your own site isn't really much of a traffic-generation plan at all. The only traffic that can ever produce is a little gradual, eventual, search-engine traffic - often the hardest kind of traffic there is to monetize.

This is putting it mildly. It's true that you may eventually get some search-engine traffic just from your site's own content being indexed, and your pages gradually ranking well (they'd have to rank very, very well, though); but is that really going to monetize your business?

Links from high PR sites aren't necessarily good links. You need links that carry lots of link juice and ranking power. Also, you need to target low competition keywords within each of your articles to start ranking and getting significant traffic from Google. Writing articles on random topics won't help much.

You have to do some keyword research and find out what kind of information people are looking for in your niche and write articles targeting the keywords they are using and providing the information they need.

Initially it takes time for the new site to get organic traffic.

your website is still new, so don't worry too much about not getting enough views. It's a competitive nice, so it'll take time for you to build some decent traffic.

I am sure you must have done keyword research while writing your articles. Did you choose keywords having high competition or low one? Choose Keywords that have less competition even if they get less hits. Intially since you need to build your customer base, start small.

Once you start having some influence and high traffic, you can start competing with the bigger fish.

Are you doing marketing for your website along with SEO? I would suggest you make yourself a good page on major social media platforms and try to generate traffic from there as well.
