Does .com .org .club matter?

Hello,

I found a domain name that I'd like to purchase but the .com is already taken. For the purposes of increasing my chances of ranking higher in search engines, would I still have a solid chance if I use a .org, .club etc? I wasn't sure if the search engines treated .com's preferentially.

I'm setting up a review site for affiliate marketing purposes.

Thanks!

I find .com and .org to rank much better than other extensions. Expecially in aged domains.

Did you ever consider that that might be because newer TLDs are new and so by definition can't be aged domains?

.com .net .org is what i would go for first.

Also I would not bother making a new domain, buy and expired or dropping domain with age and or good links and build your site on that. This will save you a lot of hard work trying to rank

It doesn't matter, pick a domain name & do real SEO.

There's plenty of .com sites holding steady on page #97 of Google SERPs, .com isn't going to magically rank your page.

In terms of SEO I don't think it matters, personally.
If you are talking about easy to memorize, yes then .com and .org as most people have already known them for a long time.

One thing I have noticed in my only .org domain is that they climb pretty quickly in Bing and Yahoo SERPs. Even, the traffic comes from many unheard countries, which means your content ranks well in local search engines.

Well, I don't think that really matter I mean what's the problem with getting a domain with an .org, .club or etc.... extension.

The tld (domain extension) has no relation to your rankings. But the brand recall for .com is superior than that of others.
