Blogging for Local Website

I've done a lot of the on-page SEO that I have read about in order to get my local business (electrician) website ranking. I do very well for Google Local, I come up 1st in the 7 pack for my own town and the next town over. But since these are small towns I need business from 50+ surrounding towns too, which is where the SEO comes in.

I've done various things such as unique geographical landing pages for each of those towns. I am currently working with an SEO guy who has been giving me links that have helped me rank higher.

One thing I was thinking about doing is blogging. Would it help in any significant way if I put a blog on my company's website and started putting up electrical articles filled with keywords and links back to my services pages?

FWIW, I suck at writing so I would probably pay for the articles.

Google likes fresh and new content. Blogging is definitely important to rank in search engines. Blogs such powerful tools for SEO (search engine optimization) and online visibility. Every blog post you write becomes another web page, and every web page is another opportunity to rank well for a specific search your ideal customer is doing right now.

So let's assume you are going with this blog idea. And, it's a good thing for SEO. So anyway, you should really think about topics that might interest your potential customers. For instance, with winter time fast approaching, you might want to tell your site visitors/customers how to winterize their home to save money on electricity. This subject is related to electrical services in a way that doesn't seem like a sales job. And, as always you could integrate references to services that a qualified electrician (such as yourself) could be able to provide.

Blogging can help you a lot, it is one of the first things I recommend to my local business clients, but you probably don't want the post filled electrical keywords. Linking to your services pages, depending on how many you have, might help.

    Hi,

In my view the content present in the website should be genuine. If you paste the copied content means the Google takes it spam and block the website for doing SEO.

I've only found blogging really useful if the content is something people are interested in. The blog articles I write at work get tons of visits and earn us ranking but more importantly customers because they are topics people care about. If you pay for someone just to write and insert a bunch of keywords it won't be as good as if you write about the top 10 questions you get asked on a regular basis as an electrician. Think about the things people would be asking Google about (How do I...., What Should I do if.... etc). Then make sure you mark up the pages with Schema so Google knows you are a local business and shows the content to the right visitors

Mobile users are more likely to conduct a vocal search in the form of a question. So in this situation, someone might search, "where can I find an electrician in (city name)?...'. And, a site that answers that question would likely rank well.

Adding questions to article and page titles is a good idea as it shows the content on that page will likely contain a answer to the question asked.

Well, I'm going to disagree with a lot of the generic responses you will receive. A blog in a local area is not going to help you rank in other cities, it will however, increase overall domain relevance but it isn't going to do much for your rankings.

A blog, that isn't location dependent has more use for generating traffic because it can be relevant to anyone in the country or even world.

For local businesses, you ideally want to use the blog to bring people further into the sales cycle.
