I have done some research and the information that I found is conflicting: some people say use as many tags as you can, others say use just a few (<10 but extremely relevant)
Since Youtube and Google keep making changes all the time I am lost.
Advise please.

I use between 10 to 15. So, I would suggest to use upto 15 relevant tags and not more than that.

Use your most important keywords as tags. 10 tags should be more than enough for any publisher.

I think stuffing a huge amount of tags onto a YouTube video is asking for trouble. The best thing to do is to seek highly targeted tags relevant to your video. So it doesn't really matter what number, so long as they are most relevant. A good tip is to include your channel name as a tag as that will ensure that your other videos show up in the related videos box.

In YouTube's documentation they recommend a minimum of 12 tags. I do up to 12 if I can think of that many that are appropriate for the video. My technique is to look for search suggestions on YouTube that should bring up my video and I use those searches as keywords along with the regular targeted keywords.
