Hi,

Basically I have set up two campaigns and I am suffering from a few problems. Firstly Google keeps saying that bids are too low, but some of them are 75c plus to get on the first page (I am currently bidding 30-35c). Also my quality score in some keywords is quite low so I am not getting shown. Where this gets confusing is I have everything from 2/10 through to 7/10. There are also no conversions.

In terms of statistics

Campaign 1:

14 days Old, 32 Clicks 19190 Impressions, CTR 0.17% Average CPC 0.31c and Average Position is 9.4.

Campaign 2:

7 days Old, 3 Clicks 4651 Impressions, CTR 0.06% Average CPC 0.21 and Average Position is 5.9.

In short help! Do I junk the campaign or is there something I can do. I have already redone the ads and added more keywords (both +ve and -ve)

Many thanks.

With QS of 2 and CTR that low, you're fighting an uphill battle. You really need to find out how to increase your QS dramatically (it isn't just keywords to do that) and increase your CTR immensely.

As with all similar questions, no specific help can be given without looking at the campaign itself in all its fine details. Steven is right. You need to increase that CTR and QS. Hiring one of us would help.

What factors do I need to consider with Quality Score? As for hiring, I am not sure as to whether I could afford you.

Your site has to have significant content. It should have links to relevant sites in your same niche. Ideally it should have more than one page. It should have a Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, Contact Us, About pages -- not having them affects QS.

Even the amount of time it takes your page to load is now factored into your QS.

Thanks for the advice and those two quite informative articles.

I do have a Privacy Policy, Terms of Service and Contact Us Pages on both campaigns. The second campaign also links to other sites including .gov and .edu as well as a site map. The articles are however, very useful and I will have a re-read. I know I have too many keywords in each Ad Group but I am limited to my allowance by Google (although I am going to speak to them again if I can, or possibly look at their MCC system, any tips on divying up keywords in a newbies account would be greatly apprecaited).

Yes, Quality Score (QS) is the key. My guess would be you have pretty mixed keywords, not very related, maybe also some very general? Keywords with a QS of 2 you better delete. Try to 1. be very, very related to you ad-text with your keywords, and 2. pay attention to your landing page: add quite some unique (!) content with your keywords in it.

The moment you submit your campaign your keywords will get an initial Quality Score assigned. This Quality Score is determined by your account Quality Score history, especially on this keyword and on the Quality Score history of that keyword in general (by other advertisers). Landing Page and Relevance of your ad to keyword is also important here. Once your campaign runs, AdWords will possibly adjust the Quality Score for your keywords according to your performance, which basically means CTR - compared to your competition.

In case you are mixing up search and content network, split this (I get the impression from your very low CTR) and focus on search first.

In general there are 3 main factors for your keyword QS, in order of importance: 1. Click Through Rate, 2. Relevancy of Keyword/Ad/Landingpage and 3. Landingpage Quality

    s. also some posts on my Thumoney.com for Quality Score.

I don't offer anything online, I'm afraid. All of my Adwords instruction is done offline in a consulting or mentoring capacity, or at one of my live seminars. However, if you spend the $37 (for 20 years) access to the "War Room" you'll find therein a complete video series for Adwords newbies as well as a ton of other good Adwords stuff.

Again, the cost is just $37 (one time) for 20 years of access. You'll find MORE than enough information there to justify the cost at least 10 times over.
