Whats better submitting on your site or someone elses?

It is probably better to do both, I mean why would you publish an article on a top site and get a decent backlink, and traffic only to find when they reach your site/blog there is little to no content on the page, all this does is increase bounce rate and kill the blog/site dead.

The premises is to keep the user on the page for a period of time, you would be in effect be promoted a blank page, seems kinda pointless to be honest.

Must better to write or get writers to construct a compelling, well written article that keeps them reading, keeping them on the page, with videos this becomes much easier, images, and so fourth, it is also more likely to be shared around the web. Hence the blog/site if good enough promotes itself, coupled with the exposure from submitting to news sites, google news, high ranking sites, article syndicates and the like.

If it was me, I would do both.

Neither of those examples are useful.

First, an established authority site will stomp your new domain/page in the SERPs with your own content.

Second, rank your own pages but that's not going to happen sitting around, writing articles, or whatever... Promote your site, build long term quality links that will stick for years.

Those are two different things. One is On Page SEO and the other is OFF page. Both are equally important.

What i kind of wanted to know was is there more value in posting the content on our blog we would of course promote it. or is it better to get some good backlinks?

We run a success online company within the 'Haulage' industry and we want to increase our rankings for certain keywords. We have pages that are optimized for some of these keywords already and we are ranking for them, we are looking to increase our ranking by putting out some useful niche related content which would include certain keywords. I am just wondering shall we publish the content on our own site and promote it or should we look to get backlinks from high authority sites and let them publish it? The content would be related to what we do and the links would go to pages relevant to the content that is published.

I keep hearing 2 sides one being publish your own unique content onto your site and promote it so others share it around and the other one being get that content published on to a high authority site linking back to us.

Or is it a case of putting some content pieces on our blog and promote and then put other pieces out on other sites to link back?
