I still see Steve Pavlina's site as #1. If you're logged into Google it shows you results that are customized to you, so that may be why you see your site as #1?

Excellent! I've managed to get on page 1 for my key words but that climb up to the final spot at the top is really hard to do. Sometimes I slip back to page 2, so you may not stay there. Keep at it.

you also have to think that many people that are seeing this thread will google it, and click on your page, and hit back. Which is a negative vote for you. Thats assuming your average user stays longer.

Even worse if they check out the competition after that.

I see the same thing as KJ. I even used SEO Tools and checked it and it shows you at position 70 for the term "personal development" w/o quotes, but when i checked myself at google it showed you at #71.

Good luck though and maybe it hasn't gotten around to all of the google servers yet, but a jump from the #70's to #1 is a jump quite unlike I have ever seen.

Yes - it's indeed odd - and I see I am now back at my usual positions on the 2 engines in question. I'm on page #1 of the .co.uk engine in position #8; and page #3 of the .com engine in position #24

Don;t know what's going on over there, but it was nice while it lasted. It actually gave me the shock of my life when I saw it there in position #1 of the .com site.

Still, perhaps it's some kind of indication that Google is thinking about upping my ranking - I'd like to think so.

To find what you really rank, you need to view it through a proxy. Go to www.pagewash.com and search through google under the proxy. This should show your real rank.

Ive got ya in at #70. Be sure your using google while NOT logged into webmaster tools or a gmail account ... that will skew your search results big time.

I make the top 5 slots anytime I search for google whilst unwittingly logged into my google accounts.

I have a bunch of pages #1 at Google for Collectible Dolls Shop also and they're not screen shots.

And, I have never looked for or build any backlinks for the site. It's a bit over rated to say that you have to have a bunch of backlinks for a site to do well.

Example:

Hannah Montana collectibles - Google Search=

collectible dolls shop - Google Search

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&r...h&aq=f&oq=&aqi=

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...s&aq=f&oq=&aqi=

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...q=f&oq=&aqi=g1

and thousands more.

Normally if I'm #2 instead of #1 the merchant that I'm an affiliate with is the only one above me.

That's strange. I make thousands of dollars a year off of that site so I guess people that are into collectibles are using those product key words and many others on my collectibles site.

Either you're wrong or Awstats is wrong - I'm going with you're wrong because I'm getting the sales to show Awstats is right.

I never questioned whether you were making sales or getting lot's of traffic, only that you were not getting much traffic from that specific keyword search term.

How many referrals are you receiving from Google for that specific search query? If you look deeply enough into your data you will see that I'm correct. Don't trust me, look closely at your own data for that revelation. You are likely to find that your traffic is coming from other search terms and while that is good, it doesn't make my original assertion wrong.

By having a clear understanding of exactly (not generally) where our traffic comes from we can learn and improve our techniques. I feel it's helpful for everyone on this board to get the most accurate information possible so we can all benefit. If you can show us actual data the contadicts my assertions that would be a revelation I would welcome.

I'm still working my way up for lead generation, and am currently 4th/7th respectively in .co.uk/.com. But I'm still very prone to the Google dance, and tend to lose 6-12 places within seconds of telling somebody I'm now on page one. So I better not check again today!
