Try to use high search volume keywords with low competition and mostly you need to target long tail keywords if you need immediate results

You should use both, use singular and plural forms of your words, which are related. Never optimize a page or a site for just one keyword phrase.

For most keywords google recognize singular and plural form so don't treat both as separate keyword esp when it come to keyword density. Keep your keyword density less than 2.5 % for both singular and plural combined.

Doesn't really matter but you have nothing to lose if you optimise for both. Most sites that rank for the singular version of a keyword also rank for the plural version because they are intimately similar in meaning.
