Hello, first of all i would like to apologise if this topic sound blunt or stupid. I seek some advice from SEO experts who has been doing it for some time. Im planning to purchase some expired domain which is my niche related. The plan is very simple old domain would give me some head start for SEO with its indexing & back links.

Now my question is if i had to choose lets say between a domain which has a PR 1 status in Google but 10-12 years old and Another domain which has PR2 rank but 3/4 years old which should i go for. If any one think purchasing old/expired domain is harmful for SEO in 2015 then kindly elaborate why.

One last thing my niche is not very competitive.

Regards
Aref

I would not make a decision like that based on PageRank. PR has not been updated in over 14 months. The data you are looking at is old and out of date.

Age alone is not a huge factor though.

Age is a very minor factor.

PageRank is a big factor, but you have no idea what the PageRank of any page really is right now. Google has stopped providing public updates.

Some folks tend to confuse the age of a domain with established link profiles. It's possible to have an old domain with no backlinks (no pages will rank for traffic keywords). It's also possible to have a 1 or 2 year old domain with an awesome backlink profile that will rank pages all day long.

In other words, your not going to rank pages based on domain age. Not happening...

Thanks for the comment. But my concern is can such domain cause any harm? Like when the indexing starts with new site, the info from old site may clash in google database (since new site urls & article wouldn't match the new one) or how do i know if the domain had a penalty from google? There could be lot of reason, if you think of any please share.

    Regards

You need to read a guide on how to purchase expired domains (you'll find many via Google). The most important thing you have to look at is the quality and age of the backlinks it has. An expired domain that is 3 years old with quality aged backlinks would rank faster for a given keyword than a similar domain that is 12 years old with no backlinks.

I think right now PR are valueless, Because more then 1 year PR doesn't update by google. In my view you can check PA, DA for authority domain. You can see there have PR 5 expire domain in godaddy auction. But you don't get any profit from those domain. Because there have no PA (Page Authority) DA (Domain Authority).

So forget about PR. It the time to dance with PA, DA

You need to do more research on buying expired domains if not you'll be wasting your money on deindexed or spammed domains.

And also you need to know what metrics to look for with a good expired domain.

Old and New Domain is not playing much important role, you can just try to make website with highly effective content and website structure. you can complete the website following all the rule and regulation of search engine.

    Dear Areful Eeslam,

I strongly suggest that instead of wasting your money in buying old domains, you must focus on making your new website standout. And since you mentioned that your niche is not so competitive, that alone opens a great window of opportunity for you to dominate through constant and original contents.

If you really need some instant boost, hiring additional help would not hurt you. That way your investment could be more of value.
