We need SEO advise as to how to increase our keyword ranking on Google and Bing for our new e-commerce website.

The site has been indexed by google about 140 pages. We have not done any seo apart from meta title and meta descriptions.

Need the site to rank hopefully on the 1st page of google for several keywords. As its a new website, we need all the SEO power we can get.

Please can you suggest all the update to date seo tactics we can and should employ.

What do we ask a seo company/person/agency to do, that will pull in the results?

What are the current methods that work and will pull in the best results.

New here, so please be easy

Many Thanks in advance

Instead of giving you a list of tips, I'll refer you to a case study of how someone acquired high quality links for a new ecommerce site: Ecommerce SEO Case Study: White Hat Link Building Without Any Content

You will need allot more than just meta titles and descriptions! You need to get some good text content on the page which has your keywords/keyphrases in it. Along with that, you need to be using search engine friendly URLs. To go with that, you should also be building good quality backlinks into your homepage and inner pages.. All of that would at least be a start

Even product schema tags would also help understand search engine bots about the product, price, description, ratings etc. for better rankings.

I think you are in for a hard time to be honest, building my own site i structured it like you would doing an E-Commerce site and did not realize just how much would need to be done.

Iv seen hundreds of sites fail at this, most of which fail before they have even stepped into the market, mainly due to sites offering scripts to build from scratch not offering all the other stuff needed to make it work.

To do a good job and keep Google sweet you are going to have to do the following, and believe me this takes time.

    1) Incorporate Pagination if needed, if you have product pages 1,2,3,4 and so on you will need Pagination.

    2) If you have products which simply change the design layout but not the content you will need some form of Canonicals placed on all pages except the page you want indexed.

    3) Use your own images, not ones from a cart linking to other sites, as you waste valuable pagerank, I added 27,000 gaming covers by hand in HD, they are the best on the web by miles. I cut them out, HD them, shrunk them with Jpeg mini and optimized each image for the smallest file size possible, whilst remaining in perfect HD. Now i get several images, especially covers shared all over the place, even passing pagerank which is filtered back to the game pages, and a backlink, cheers.

Would also obtain the best physical images you can get, keyword them, so the file name is the same as product, use jpg as png and others can be large in file size, would use Infanview to resize them, and jpg mini to shrink them (the file size, compression)

    4) You will ideally need your own product descriptions, as otherwise you are no different to the thousands of other sites, hence will end up in supplemental index, hence the pages are binned.

    5) Would try and place it on some form of CDN, especially images and videos for fast distribution, in fact would host the site on CDN, you will need it eventually.

    6) If in multiple countries, you will need Hrefs if the product is the same, and will also need separate sitemaps targeting respected country in Google, product descriptions must match their respected country, so "optimize" is a valid word in the USA, "optimise" is valid in the UK.

    7) Would use internal linking on related products to enable Google to crawl the site faster and keep the little spiders moving around the site without leaving it when they come to a page which doesn't link anywhere else.

    8) Write compelling meta descriptions, something i am not very good at.

    9) Use Structured Data in Webmasters and also use Snippets, Data Highlighter, and also use Google Analytics.

    10) Would use plenty on social signals on the page, so users can share the pages around the web, Facebook like/share, Twitter, Google + and place it around the central part of the page.

Those are pretty much what i adopted, or had to adopt, it took almost 6 years to do 22,000 pages, but with cash flow would be much faster.

    Good luck mate.

Doing SEO for e commerce website quite a tough task. First you have to do on page properly then go for the off page activities.

I am doing B2B SEO and from experience I would advise you to hire some expert for that (I`m not making a commercial for myself, just stating the obvious - but just in case let me mention that I am overbooked with more than 20 businesses...)

If you are asking someone to do it, tell them that you need them to check if you are deindexed and to check the SEO you`ve done. - that`s as much as you can tell them... they know the rest (they know this also but many disregard that most important checks)

Many Thanks for the good tips.

Should I hire someone to build quality backlinks, write new blog content, do some social media marketing?

What off page seo strategy works well.

      Thanks

I would ask yourself 3 valid questions to ponder on.

        1) you need to understand how much work is ahead.

        2) Does the site offer something not found elsewhere, is it simple to use, is there a demand?

        3) Iv spent close to 700,000 building my own site, like this, it is extremely difficult, still working on it, have yet to promote it, if you want to promote it start with CNN, Huffing ton Post, all the news sites, piece of piss to get on these sites, Google News, forget the top end mass backlinks, focus on quality.

As for the brand, hard to say without knowing the domain, a domain needs to be short or rememorable, if you are going to do ecom, do it with a proper domain, uk, or .com. Seen some so long it is impossible to remember it, suicide on a plate.

If you're selling a product you might want to increase traffic by using a Facebook fan page, Twitter and also Pinterest. Basically social media. SEO is fun but it doesn't get overnight results. Social media can come close to overnight which you can with a small advertising budget
