Advice for using keyword that has two distinct versions

I am currently setting up my website for our Gypsy horse stud. The breed of horse that we have is known under different names in various countries.
We are in Australia and although the breed is officially known as Gypsy Cobs here still the search is almost as much for Gypsy Vanner and also Irish Cobs.
What is the best way to deal with this? If I openly use Gypsy Vanner it will irk some people here who are very anal.
Do I use the other terms in the alt tag for images or in the description using Wordpress.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
