What is going on here?

A company that we monitor has recently started ranking for a number of totally unrelated keywords.

They are a company based in the haulage industry and they have recently started ranking for a number of 'Air Jordan' (trainers) search terms..

When i go and press the link the page doesn't open and it diverts to another no opening page.

The domain name is haulageexchange .co .uk

And the terms it is now ranking for are: 'jordan 6', 'air jordan 6 retro', 'jordan retro 6', etc..

all totally unrelated to what they do..

They have had a number of new back links recently from Far Eastern sites could it be something to do with that? and how is google ranking them highly on these terms when you cant even open the page?

Looks like they were probably hacked.

There are a bunch of pages created under the /feed directory.

There are probably more than that, but that is what is indexed so far.

They probably have no idea it is even happening. It is a pretty common hack.

I had an attorney client with something similar where there were 400 pages injected to their site about PayDay Loans.

I dont quite understand how when i look at the page it shows a couple of images, but when i scanned it with SeoQuake to check the source it shows 600 images on the homepage?

We found 601 images on this page.
585 ALT attributes are empty or missing.

Was not going to mention it as i could not see anything in the source, just found it strange, unless Seoquake is playing up.

Looking at one of the URLs for the Google search Mike Friedman did shows a redirect pointing at a shoe niche domain.

Paste the view source URL below into Google Chrome browser, you'll see a javascript redirect (sloppy) in the webpage source code.

I guess old Google has been brushing up on their javascript skills.

The funny thing is, this is significant (Google following javascript redirects) as far as SEO goes while this thread will be buried in the forum within a week & bumped by nonsense threads that don't matter (social, density, etc...).

i find it strange that it could be hacked and then start ranking on those keywords. Just shows google isn't all about quality, relevant content then.

I am assuming this will eventually get picked up by google or something?

As far as Googlebot knows, the owner of haulageexchange .co .uk is the one that created the redirects since it's on their own domain. The average website will never get hacked.

Since this is a Wordpress site odds are a WP plugin or WP theme is how the javascript is being added to the webpages. It's far easier to let a webmaster upload a problem plugin/theme to their host/domain than someone sitting around trying to crack admin passwords.

I'm a bit confused on how your connected to the domain/URL you've posted in the OP. Is this one of your clients domains, or competition?
