research where your competitor is active

Dear forum,

I was wondering if anyone can suggest me a tool that can show me where my competitors are active with their business. (country, region, city).
Are there free tools for this or tools you say it is worth to pay.
I am in a extremely saturated niche (travel) and would like to make a research on places where my competitors are not really active yet and start small.
Hoping for a quick reply!

There are two ways to do what you want.

You can either use the keyword-difficulty tool to search for areas which have low competition or you can use the Open site explorer to look at your competitor's backlinks and see what keywords they are ranking for.

It is not necessary however to look at what your competitors are doing however to do what you want.

Independent of what your competitor's are doing you can research low competition areas but you already have to have compiled a list of some destinations for this to work.

    So for example put in

    los angeles california travel

in the keyword difficulty tool, if it is high competition then it is a no go. You have to have a list compiled with particular keywords in mind for that to work however.
