How to increase Ranking / User activity of Forums

Hello,
I am owner of Dota International. Earlier it was called youths-den but around 1 year ago I changed my URL according to my niche.

Earlier when I started the forums (Youth-den) I had some friends who helped me kick start the forum. I did not know anything about SEO and improving site content stuff at that time. So to start the site, my friends copied lots of stuff from other places and added it in forum. Which brought some discussion point for users and it was quite an active place at that time. Now all those friends got busy in their life issues and some found other places and stuff and left.

When I changed from Youths-den to Dota International, I invested some amount on my site, got a premium theme built for it, wrote some good content on site, built links occasionally but even then I am not getting regular user activity on my site. You guys know forum is about some regular users activity, a bit different than blogs.

So now I don't have some regular natural user activity. Please suggest me how can I improve my ranking in Google and also continue some natural activity in forum.

Please do not refer me software etc, just tell me some possible and do-able stuff / tips related to forums, which I can actually implement.

    Forum SEO is something you cannot manipulate easily by trying to rank for a given keyword. The only way I suggest you try out is advertising your forum using PPC or other traffic methods.

    More members, more activity. More activity, more SEO rankings.

    There's only so much SEO work you can do on a forum. With forums, users' content IS your on page SEO.
    And the way to get users to post is to make your forums interesting. If you're in a rot, I suggest you hire some paid forum posters, just to get things going.

      But those paid posters will also post for some days and then they will go away, I want that new and active users should join and stay on forum for some time, post some stuff, whatever it is. So that a regular forum activity starts like here. How can I do that ? How can I get active members who actually post some stuff.

        I wasn't suggesting to pay people forever just so they post on the forums
        Hiring people to get things started is just a strategy, they start up some discussions, their posts get indexed and will be seen by search engines, people will find your forum and they will join the discussion.

        Meanwhile, promote the forum yourself. Create a facebook page, post often on it, engaging people to join in the debates that are discussed on your forums.

        Organize contests. If you already have a few members, even if they're not very active, organize posting contests. Offer badges or some fancy ribbon to the user with most posts, or you can even offer a cash prize or an ebook, anything works really!

    Well we need to really build authority. Forum posting can do a lot especially when do right. I think the key is to share and engage to other users.

      This is what I am asking, how to engage users in activities by which they stay on site for some time too..??

    First of all you need to remove all the duplicate content. Then create some useful content on your site. You can advertise you forum bu using PPC. Also promote you forum on relevant sites. You can organize a content on your forum. Like the member of highest number of post in a month will win a prize.

    You should use lots of advertisement methods for your forum. Always use quality content and must frequently update on regular basis. You can promote your forum on appropriate sites.

    You need activity! That's the way to promote it. For example you could post something interesting on the forum, then promote the thread page and do SEO on it, this way this forum page could become popular. Then, it could bring you some more active members.. If you are ready to pay, go with PPC

    Be active on Forums, Start some Giveaway programs, Create backlinks most important, make list of active mail subscribers users and take email marketing seriously.

    You will improve your search engine ranking and will also get more traffic from search engines !

    Try to promote your forum link on different popular forums who are from same niche. You can also use PPC but it will cost you much higher.
