Sudden changes on Google result

Hi,

I need some feedback or advices from u guys with regards to situation of my site.

I own a site (wordpress blog) with about 30+ unique articles in health niche.

My site is doing well with 1000+ visitors (keep increasing) and ranked high at Google and Yahoo for few keywords.

Today, i found that the PR of the site changed from 1/10 to 0/10.

At the same time, three of the main keywords which previously listed on first page of Google (#4th rank-#8th rank) could not be found on the first page anymore...not even third page!

It's little bit funny as when i checked in Google webmaster tool, that three keywords still reported on good rank (i.e: 1st-9th rank).

I used some other sites to check keyword ranking, also reported good result. PR checks...some sites give PR1, some sites give PR0.

Luckily my site still ranked at first position on Yahoo for the main keyword.

Do u guys have any experience on this?

Looking for good feedback from all

Thanks

for those keywords that you have been penalized do you build a lot of links to your sites with those exact phrases? If you have then this would be the reason you have been penalized you haven't varied your anchor text enough from backlinks.

Change some of your current backlink anchor texts and build more links with more varied anchors and you'll see improvement in your serps.

I actually wrote an article on it here:

i guess u might be true because in this week i do a lot of backlinks to my sit with same anchor text.

never know this will jeopardize my ranking

do u suggest that i should build new backlinks with other multiple keywords?

do u think my site will get back its original rank?

      cheers..

Your suggestion on making per-page meta descriptions is excellent, thanks. I realize now that for my main keyword google actually is showing the meta description verbatim. So to rank the other pages well, I need to write individual meta descriptions around the keyword for each page.

      Good idea.

@Joe118 it is a great way to get other variations of your phrase into the page aswell rather than having the exact same phrase for the the Title, H1, and meta description

I agree. Keep adding more backlinks and include some newer keywords. Also add more content to the site AND change the content on what you have.

Show Google that it is still being maintained.

Whenever you have a ranking problem you have to ask yourself what you've changed recently. Since you've been doing a lot of link building that you haven't done previously then this could be the cause. Do some research on the -30 penalty and the -950 penalty and see if your site matches those symptoms.

Yes. It can happen for a number of reasons.

Brand new domains will tend to fluctuate a lot, especially in highly competitive niches like weight loss. Competition is tougher and better sites and more competitive sites can force you down in rankings quickly. You may see a slight bonus for new content but this is short lived. People see this and think that they're sandboxed or penalized but this is just the normal Google algorithm in action.

Changing something about the site can result in temporarily confusing Google. Changing a WordPress theme or plugin can throw things off as Google's algorithm figures out your page again and re-ranks it. Normally you'll come back quickly as long as nothing has been badly screwed up.

Your site might have been down or running slow when the Google bot tried to visit it. This might also cause a temporary drop. Make sure your site is running OK.

Don't worry about your incoming links and other "cargo cult" SEO you might hear from some around here. This isn't a problem unless you're doing something automated to generate 1000's upon 1000's of links overnight or something else along those 'dark side' lines.

      Seriously??

Hmm, maybe that is why my site is not ranking well. My propeller and digg submission are getting the #2 and #8 spot on page 1. But my site is nowhere to be seen.

I changed my theme a few times in the past 2 days.

@bgmacaw was that a sarcastic remark? You should read about google bombing and why it is a theory that does make sense from all angles before you pretend to know SEO and dismiss stuff as "cargo cult" SEO

Trying to burn your competitors which are probably the ones already on the first page of google is not going to do much as they will be well estabilshed domains with age and lots of good content and varied anchor text.

For a new site who keeps trying to link with 'make money online' do you really thing google should rank it and not treat it as an obvious underhand tactic to rank high rather than building good content and generate links naturally? Or did 50 people decide to link to this site with that exact phrase 'make money online' out of coincidence? Or is it just a 'cargo cult' theory that doesn't make much sense?

Doesn't bother me if you want to believe it or not, I'm talking from a Visitor and Google point of view that this would make sense to penalize someone for this, it's just obvious manipulation nothing natural about it

Cutts said that the new analysis technique works for bombs in other languages (jämmerlicher waschlappen is apparently one non-English bomb that's been defused). It is also designed only to stop bombs where the "victim" themselves isn't trying to rank for a term. For example, french military victories still brings up this parody page which wants to rank for that term.

Angela the main reason then for "click here" pointing to Adobe would be the link creation velocity which is evenly spread out over a very long time.

    Do you agree/disagree?
