Alternatives to Client SEO?

Hey fellow SEO'ers!
So to be honest, I'm growing a little weary of client SEO these days - in my mind "client" has come to be synonymous with "boss."
I got into this game to NOT be tethered to my computer all day, but that's exactly how it is. Plus, I'm always chasing down clients for payments, talking them off ledges, and hoping they don't peace out after we've worked hard to get them rankings.
I'm also doing Pay-Per-Lead, which is much more hands-free income but still lets me use my hard-earned SEO skills. You guys familiar with PPL? Basically it's like setting up & ranking a new website for a business in a given niche, and then sending any leads you get to companies who will pay big bucks for each lead you send them.
PPL is working out for me in a big way but I want to explore other strategies to apply what I know about SEO to make money & was hoping you guys could share some ideas!
